Bb

Song :

Bring your bat and bring your ball, /b/ /b/,

Bring your bat and bring your ball, to the park to play.

Objectives :

- To learn the letter name and letter sound through story,

song, action and fun activities.
- To learn the letter formation through sky-writing with index
finger, and trace the magnetic big and little Bb on the
board.
- To learn different vocabulary that starts with the beginning
sound /b/.

Vocabulary :

bird, boat, bicycle, bubbles

Step by Step
Procedure :

1)

Start the lesson by asking children if they

remember the letter from last week. Play the JP CD to sing
song with action as revision.

2)

Ask children whether they knew which letter

comes after letter Aa. Show the magnetic Bb on the
board.

3)

Invite children to show their Writing Finger

by pointing my index finger to the sky and say Writing
Finger Up. Have children follow my finger to trace the B
on the board (they follow by sky-writing the letter), repeat
two times then invite individual children to come and try
tracing the magnetic Bb with their index finger. Repeat
this step for the b.

4)

Remind children that Bb is the letter name

and every letter has a special letter sound. We will find out
the letter sound in a special story.

5)

Read the story and introduce the three

characters Ben, Billy and Better. Ask children if they knew
the ball game they were playing. Introduce baseball to the
children through flashcards with the actual bat and ball. Tell
Page 1 of 3

children that when the bat hits the ball, it will make the
sound /b/.
6)

Ask children to pretend to hold a bat,

pretend to throw the bat and ask them to say /b/ while
swinging the imaginary bat. Try it with every child by
calling their names one by one.

7)

Tell children that they have just learned how

to make the letter sound /b/. Put the song sheet on the
board and play the CD twice. Then explain the lyrics and
sing the song slowly (without music), so the children can
follow the lyrics. Invite them to hold their imaginary bats to
do the action while singing the song.

8)

Show children the flashcards (vocabulary).

For each flashcard, point at the beginning letter and say
bird starts with letter b, so we say the sound /b/, /b/,
bird. Always do the action when saying the letter sound
/b/. Show the bubbles flashcard at the end. Ask all
children to stay in their seats, then use the bubble pen to
blow some bubbles. After they finished observing the
bubbles, do a quick recap of all the flashcards by pointing
at the first letter of the flashcards. /b/ bird, /b/ boat, /b/
bicycle, /b/ bubbles.

9)

To reinforce the letter sound, invite children

to try the bats. Ask them to either go to the front or stand
up at their seats, 2-3 children at a time depending on the
time left and the size of the group. Teach them to hold the
bat and make sure they cannot hit the friend next to them.
Then go to the opposite side to sing the song and pretend
to throw the ball, so the children can swing the bat and say
the letter sound /b/ according to the song.

10)
Collect the bats at the end and conclude by
saying today we have learned letter Bb with the letter
sound /b/ (say it loudly with action).
Evaluation :

Children enjoyed it so much when I blew real bubbles in front

of them. They cooperated while playing with the bat. Most of
them are able to play along and say /b/ when I pretended to
throw the ball while singing the song.
