What is iMovie?

A. Video editing software developed by Apple.


B. In iMovie you can import images, video, and audio.
C. Using those images and video you can create visual effects to create
professional looking movies.

A. Obtain permission before using any images or video used on your iMovie project.
B. Use public domain images in your project.

Launching iMovie

A. Click on file new project.


B. Name your project.
C. Choose your aspect ratio Widescreen (16:9) for optimal viewing.
D. Choose frame rate 30 fps (frames per second) is the standard frame rate for a
camera.
E. Choose a theme for your project.

Once you select a theme, you have the option to allow iMovie to

automatically add transitions and titles. Deselecting this option allows you to create
any visual effects you desire for your project.

1.

Where all your videos will be stored.

B. Editing Toolbar
1.

Where you will find the cropping tool and the inspector tool, which you will

need to use in order to edit the different images and video in your project.
C. Monitor
1.

The monitor will display a preview of what the movie will look like. You will

also use the monitor to view the editing options for each image.
D. Camera Tool
1.

Here you can import images to iMovie directly from your camera, or you

can use the camera built into your computer to take images using this button.
E. Event Pane
1.

Here, all your videos are stored and can be dragged into the project

library.
F. Media Browser Toolbar
1.

Add audio, photos, text, transitions, and backgrounds to your iMovie using

this toolbar.
G. Project Editing Window
1.

Where all your images and video will be stored in the order they will play

for your video. The images and video for your project can be edited here.
VI.

Importing Video

A. Download the videos to your desktop ahead of time.


B. Click on file import movies
C. Select the video you desire to be imported into iMovie, click import.
D. Video will then appear into the event plane.
VII. Importing Images
A. Download the images into a folder on your desktop ahead of time.
B. Open the folder on your desktop.

C. Select the desired images for your iMovie project by clicking on the image and
dragging it into the iMovie project library.
VIII. Adding Videos into your iMovie Project
A. Click on the video or a portion of the video in the event pane.
B. Drag the video into the project editing window.

Arranging Images and Video

A. Select the image or video within the project editing window.


B. Drag the image to the desired point in your project.
C. Both images and video can be dragged and dropped within the library to be
arranged in any way you desire.

Editing Options

A. Adding Music
1.

Click on the music note icon found on the editing toolbar.

2.

Access the iTunes menu for legally downloaded music.

3.

Access the iMovie Sound Effects Folder.

4.

Click on the desired sound or song and drag it into your project library.

B. Adjusting the Music


1.

Inspector tool clip adjust the duration of the song or sound effect

C. Creating Visual Effects

Fit
a) Select the cropping tool select fit to display the entire image on the
screen.

Crop
a) Select the cropping tool select crop to display only a portion of the
image on the screen.

a) Select the cropping tool click on the right or left arrow to alter the
position of your image on the screen.

Ken Burns
a) Select the cropping tool click on the Ken Burns button to adjust the
start and end point of your image to have your image pan in and out of the
screen in a slow motion pattern.

Titles/Text
a) Select the title browser (T) on your editing toolbar drag the desired
title onto your image and type.

6.

Transitions
a) Click on the transition browser on the editing toolbar drag a desired
transition between the images in your project library.

D. Adjusting the Speed


1.

To adjust the speed of an image, select the inspector tool clip to adjust

the length of time each image is displayed on the screen.


2.

To adjust the speed of a video, select the inspector tool adjusting the

speed of the video will make it move in slow motion, real motion, or fast motion.
