Jack Ray Howington (May 24, 1937 - April 17, 2016) (RUS. Veteran Mr. Jack Ray “= Howington age 78 of Blairsville passed away peacefully on Sunday April 17, 2016 surrounded by his loving family in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Jack was bom on May 24, 1937 in Flowery Branch, GA., the son of the late Chester B. Howington and the late Estee Sexton Howington, He was a veteran of the US Navy and the Reserves with over thirty three years of service. He had also retired from the Dekalb County Department of Public Safety as a Police Officer with thirty six years of service. He was a member of the American Veterans, Atlanta Metro Pole and the Intemational Association of Bomb Tech’s. Jack loved Antique Classic Cars, refinishing antique furniture, gospel music. He enjoyed working in his yard and keeping it beautiful. He served with the North GA Honor Guard for ‘many years up until he became sick. Jack was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and also a brother, James Edward Howington in 1996. Jack was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Howington are his loving wife and best friend, Pasty Pratt Howington of Blairsville, one son, Tim Howington of Jefferson, GA., one grandson, Jack Kristopher Howington of Augusta, numerous cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 20, 2016 at 9:30 am from the First Baptist Church with the Rev, Len McWilliams officiating. Special music will be presented by Jackie Hill and Terry Hooper. The North GA. Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors. Interment and graveside services will be held on ‘Wednesday at 1:30 pm from the GA. National Cemetery in Canton with full Military Honors conducted by the US Navy. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
