WHAT WILL YOU DO TO ENCOURAGE PA BEYOND THE LESSON?

Encourage students to find an activity they enjoy and offer opportunities in the form of:
1) PA Program before school or during lunch
2) Intramurals

CLASS MANAGEMENT:
Student grouping mgmt.: Scouts will be selected during pre-season to put together equally
competitive teams.

Equipment mgmt.: Equipment will be set-up prior to participation by each team.

Mgmt. routines: Teams are expected to come into class every session and set-up equipment, warm-up,
and have team binder with them.
Behavior Mgmt: Duty and Fair play points will be given to teams that fulfil the scoring system. They
also will be taken away if not fulfilled.
CONTENT SEQUENCE:
Opening/Anticipatory Set: (state objectives, connect to previous learning, and make relevant to
real life) Ok class today we will be working on the basic skills to play volleyball. These skills include
bumping, setting, and spiking. When i say Mets i want you to get into your teams
Introductory Activity/Warm-up segment: Students will get in to lines of 5 across the baseline of the
gym. They will then take turns jogging, high knees, karaoke, butt kickers, and lunges from one side of
the gym to the other
Skill Development content - Students will play the game pepper where they will get toe to toe with
a partner and practice passing, setting, and hitting (spiking). I as the teacher will stop the class when i
feel appropriate and show students the proper ways to perform these tasks
Game Content- Students will play on a standard court, 5 v 5 or 6 v 6 depending on the class size. The
scoring will be rally which means that every time the ball is hit out of bounds or hits the ground it is a
point for that team. Games will be played to 25.

Feedback Statements:
-Great job hitting the ball over the net but this time try and bend your knees and keep your arms straight
when bumping.
-Awesome job spiking the ball but this time try to keep your palm open and snap your wrist down when
hitting
-Fantastic job setting but this time attempt to keep your palms directly over your forehead

Closure/Lesson Summary:
-Can someone tell me the proper way to bump a volleyball
-Can someone tell me the proper way to set a volleyball
-Can someone tell me the proper way to spike a volleyball

Lesson Extension: There are lots of volleyball courts around town where you and your friends can go
play! It is a fun game and I really hope you use it for lifetime physical fitness

CSPAP
Before School Open Gym
To give students the opportunity to increase their physical activity before sitting in
classrooms for the day. This will increase cognitive functions and help students reach
daily physical activity recommendations. This will also help students have something
productive to do to decrease boredom and undesirable behavior.
