THE RATIONALE

a) Subject:
I have
clearly stated the topic (the issue Im going to investigate).
narrowed down the topic (=not too general).
checked that it belongs to the Core Topics.
b) Sources:
I have
used three or four sources.
fully described them (text type and content. Not a summary but which
aspects Im going to focus on).
checked that they are relevant to the aim and to the subject.
checked they are relevant to the target culture.
c) Aim/s:
I have
clearly/fully explained it/them.
stated how Im going to achieve them: text types, audience, register,
style and so on (relevant information).
d) Text type:
I have
chosen the most relevant one according to the aim/s and the audience.
stated why Im using it.
THE TASK
a) The rationale and the task
I have
focused on the subject stated in the rationale.
given details relevant to the chosen sources.
addressed the subject consistently throughout the task.
used formal conventions in an effective and evident way.
developed every aspect I stated in the rationale.
checked EVERYTHING IN THE TASK IS IN THE RATIONALE.

b) Ideas:
I have
organized them effectively (connectors, paragraphs, etc).
developed ideas addressed in the sources.
developed them effectively (are they clearly explained?).

c) Language:
I have
used a good range of appropriate vocabulary consistently through the
task.
avoided evil words (thing, nice, good, bad).
used both simple and complex sentences clearly (connectors) and
effectively (help better understanding).
used varied rhetorical devices relevant to the text type chosen.
FORMAL GUIDELINES
I have
produced an original piece of work using my own words.
NOT COPIED large sections of source texts (plagiarism).
worked on it independently with the advice but not the correction of
the teacher (collusion).
word processed it in a font and layout appropriate to the task (2MB
limit).
checked that its easy to read for the examiner (font, size and spacing).
checked that font, layout and images SUPPORT the content not
COMPETE or DISTRACT from it.
included the wordcount for both rationale and task.
referenced all my sources (bibliography) at the end of the task and the
quotations (they will be included in the wordcount!).
