I would like to pick New Energy as my final topic. As we know, energy is very important to
well-being and prosperity across the globe. However, because of the change of the global energy
situation, the trend of new energy development in the world will be taken seriously. Meeting the
growing demand for energy in a safe and environmentally responsible manner is a key challenge.
With the development of technology, world-spread new energy waves. Through this project, I
want to explore what will our future world look like. I think it is sustainability because it focuses
on environmental protection, social responsibility and economic practice. I pick it because it is a
new trending in the world today. We need to pay attention to it. It is our social responsibility as a
citizen. Each citizen enjoys a high quality of life and there is social justice for all.
I think it is a very important message for our students. Learning about what the world focus and
our future. Understanding the relationship between technology and environment, and the ways
people are involved in both. Students understand the impact of science and technology on human
activity and the environment. Those are related to science and social studies.
I want to make a lesson about how renewable energy affect and will change our society for six
grade. My meta topic is description and my topic focus on the trend of new energy development
in the world.
Day 1 The importance of energy affect to society
Day 2 This lesson would introduce the various type of energies
Day 3 Compare regular energy and new energy and the trend of new energy development in the
world
Day 4 Change of the Global energy situation like depletion of conventional energy, and
searching for the new energy
Day 5 Development of New Energy Technologies.

What Will Our Future World Look Like

Introduction to New Energy & Sustainability
Time: 5-day unit
Grade Level: 5th
Lesson description: This 5-day lesson plan will give students an understanding of energy and a
basis for making informed future decisions on energy consumption. The lesson plan will also
give the students a better understanding of energy basics, energy sources (both renewable and
non-renewable), and energy portfolios. The focus is on energy used for heat, electricity, and fuel
for cars. This lesson plan is split into five mini lessons (40-minutes each) with the end goal of
student giving presentations on an energy portfolio they have created. After every day lesson,
student will be able to paint what they learn from the class and those picture will combine to
become their final project.
Suggested subject areas:All sciences, engineering, business, social studies.
Lesson components and descriptions:
Introduction to Energy & Sustainability Lesson Plan
Gives an overview of all lesson materials and a step-by-step guide for each lesson
Introduction to Energy & Sustainability Handouts
Includes handouts, worksheets, and answer keys for all days. Individual pages may be printed
separately and teacher keys are included after each worksheet.
Introduction to Energy & Sustainability Presentation
This presentation includes supplemental material for each day of the unit. Here, students will
learn about the basics of energy, become introduced to Camp Colley, and discover the renewable
energy potential in the United States.

Day 1 The importance of energy affect to society

Time: 50-minute lesson

Science Standard: Strand 3: Science in Personal and Social Perspectives

PO 1. Explain the impacts of natural hazards on habitats (e.g., global warming, floods, asteroid
or large meteor impacts).
Lesson description: This lesson will begin with a TED-ED video, which is call "A Guide to the
Energy of the Earth," . It is a simple yet engaging way to see the 7 principles in action. The video
is applicable to all ages and can be tailored to your lessons on Earth's energy systems.
Then there is a 10-minute activity that student will be able to describe the interactions between
human populations, natural hazards, and the environment. And draw the relationship chart down.
The lesson also includes an optional 30-minute presentation that talk about how energy affect
well-being and prosperity across the globe. and an additional assessment activity that asks
students to design their own sustainable system.
Suggested subject areas:All sciences, economics, engineering, and language/cultural studies
Lesson components and descriptions:
The importance of energy affect to society Lesson Plan
Gives an overview of all lesson materials and a step-by-step guide for the 10-minute activity,
which can stand alone. (PDF)
The importance of energy affect to society Handouts
Includes the transportation mode posters that accompany the 10-minute activity. These are to be
printed out and adhered to classroom walls in order to accomplish the activity. (PDF)
The importance of energy affect to society Presentation
Presentation PowerPoint is an optional component of the lesson. The slides may be used to
present a short video that introduction to sustainability and some example of energy affect to
society

Day 2 The Various Type of Energies

Time: 50-minute lesson

Science Standard: Concept 3: Energy and Magnetism Investigate different forms of energy
PO 1. Identify various ways in which electrical energy is generated using renewable and
nonrenewable resources (e.g., wind, dams, fossil fuels, nuclear reactions).
Lesson description: This lesson focuses on various type of energies and how they work
sustainability. First student will be able to learn it from a cartoon video which is called What is
Energy - Types of Energy. This video is talking about energy is defined as the ability to do
work.Though energy may be converted from one form to another, it can not be created or
destroyed i.e. total energy in a system remains constant. All forms of energy can be linked with
motion. After that student will discuss and summary those type of energies through group
activity. Student will learn about some types of energies, what form them and how they be use.
Finally, students will draw those type of energy in the paper.
Suggested subject areas:All sciences, engineering, social studies

Day 3: Regular Energy VS New Energy and the Trend of New Energy Development in the
World
Time: 30-40 min
Lesson description: Through this class, student will able to make a chart to compare regular
energy and new energy. This close reading lesson is designed to demonstrate the tradeoffs in
investment in renewable energy strategies like solar power plants to meet our future energy
needs. In this lesson, students will explore a solar power plant that uses a trough system to

concentrate solar power for energy. Students will read short news articles about a recently
constructed solar power plant outside of Phoenix, AZ and work in groups to discuss how our
energy needs affect the three pillars of sustainability: the economy, the society and the
environment.
Suggested subject areas: All sciences, social studies, business, math

searching for the new energy
Time: 50min
Standard: Standard:Strand 3: Science in Personal and Social Perspectives
Concept 2: Science and Technology in Society-Develop viable solutions to a need or problem.
PO 1. Describe the relationship
between science and technology.
PO 2. Explain how scientific
knowledge, skills, and technological
capabilities are integral to a variety of
careers.
PO 3. Design and construct a
technological solution to a common
problem or need using common

Development of New Energy Technologies power point
Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun harnessed using a range of ever-evolving
technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, solar architecture and
artificial photosynthesis.
It is an important source of renewable energy and its technologies are broadly characterized as
either passive solar or active solar depending on the way they capture and distribute solar energy
or convert it into solar power. Active solar techniques include the use of photovoltaic systems,
concentrated solar power and solar water heating to harness the energy. Passive solar techniques
include orienting a building to the Sun, selecting materials with favorable thermal mass or light
dispersing properties, and designing spaces that naturally circulate air.
