As a kind of new communication methods, App has changed humans lifestyle and
makes life more convenient, which also is a powerful tools in different field such as business.
However, except benefits what Apps bring to people, there also exits some potential negative
problems which also need to be addressed.

App is the short for application, which can be installed not only on computer but also on
mobile phone. And with the popular of mobile phones, the number of Apps has increased
significantly. Whats more, nowadays different kinds of Apps are designed to meet peoples
variety demands. On the one hand, it has made peoples life more convenient and brought
general profits to company. On the other hand, does app also bring negative influences on
peoples life? Particularly, the essay takes the social media app as an example to discuss the
reason why Social Media Application Develop so rapidly and how does it work during our
daily life. According to Barthes, "the birth of the reader must be at the cost of the death of the
Author." In Barthes opinion, the works once completed, it will have nothing about author.
Readers can use their imagination to understand it. This theory is actually told us that when
writing, the author just has the power to interpret it, the author want to convey the meaning is
not the only, the right of interpretation entirely to the readers, there are one hundred people in
the eyes of one hundred Hamlet, so there are one hundred Hamlet is established. Nowadays,
although people already has many diverse experiences about various kinds of apps, majority
of them cannot understand the true meanings of apps and have some prejudice towards app.
Hopefully, this paper will interpret the basic definition and current development of App,
which aims to help readers have a further understand of the meanings and using of App.
Application is a new and meaningful word that is defined clearly and contains a lot of
ways to be applied. App means the application program for a computer or phone operating
system. Based on this definition, the word is restricted in the domain of computer and phone.
However, app is now using in more types of fields beyond only the two. For example, app is
using in the fields of education, entertainment, medical science, organizations, politics, and

so many other ways. Even some of the using of application is quite unrelated to its original
definition, it is still meaningful for us to learn and study.
Application is using in computer system. For example, app software is an application
that helps users to deal with types of tasks on computers as well as phones, which includes
database programs, word processors, and web browsers (Beal). In terms of this statement, the
definition of application software is similar to the meaning of app nominated in WOTY,
which focuses on computer and phone systems. Similar to the using of computer and phone
system, web application is another type of application of the word application. The
difference between web application and computer application is that the web application
emphasizes on the software that runs only in a web browser. Web application is currently
developing with a fast pace, for example, a lot of web games.
Second, application is also using at educational fields, even sometimes, the using in this
field is quite unrelated to its original definition. For example CANVAS is an important
application in my phone, my professors post all the assignment and course syllabus there,
and we can check it all the time, it is really easy and also save time. We can use the
CANVAS talk with our classmates about our lessons' problem. The application use in the
educational fields are really helpful. Probably, the word of app won in the year of 2010
because of its widespread using in various fields.
Then, I searched app in the field of medicine. There are several medical terms also
named app. For example, acute-phase protein, amyloid precursor protein, and advanced
practice provider (Anon.). Since I am not a medical student, I hardly could understand the
definitions of those medical terms. However, it was amazing when I found that app could

be the represent of those medical terms, and it, again, made me understood the widely using
of the word application.
Lastly, there so many political parties and organizations also named with the term of
app. Take Asia-pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate as an example. The
Asia-pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate was built by several countries
including Australia, U.S, and People Republic Country of China. Based on the resources
provided on its official website, Applications main goal was to accelerate the use of more
energy efficient and cleaner technologies and mitigate climate change without undermining
economic development (Anon.). In terms of political parties, there are Animal Protection
Party that was founded by UK in 2004). And Australian Protectionist Party was founded in
2011 (http://www.protectionist.net/). Additionally, app is used in different various fields
that I could never image such as railway codes and peoples surname.
Back to the original definition of the word, there are some debates upon application in
computers and phones. Mostly, those debates focus on the restriction of applications from
different companies. For example, people are debating if Apples application should be used
in Android systems, and how we can transfer computer applications into phone application
back and forth. What impressed me most was there are also many interesting debating games
on phone apps.
In a word, the word application won in the year of 2010 which has its own reasons. In
2010 WOTY, the word of app ranks in the first and app is defined as application program
for a computer or phone operating system. It also appears as the advertising slogan for the
iphone (Ciurea, 89). "App has been around for ages, but with millions of dollars of marketing

muscle behind the slogan Theres an app for that, plus the arrival of app stores for a wide
spectrum of operating systems for phones and computers, app really exploded in the last 12
months, Zimmer said." It is short in writing and easy in remembering. It represents a lot of
political organizations and new terms of meaning. Most important, the original definition of
application that refers to computer system is modern in current society. Nowadays, the
world is based on information, in which application provided people with a new way to
live. Combing the important status of computer as well as phone application with its widely
using in different fields, the word of app would definitely be the year world of 2010 in
WOTY. Different apps have numerous functions and app has bring generous benefits to
company and people.
Apps in different electronic tools may have various meanings and it has been always
used in different fields. According to Staley, web app is usually used in business to signify a
short form for software applications individuals use to access to a web page by a browser
rather than a program that lies in a computer (Staley, 12-20). Obviously, some people may
get confused since the term is considered as a short form of the term application. This kind
of application performs a single function or provides some entertainment to users. Therefore,
while the definition may hold some attraction when referring to mobile electronic devices, it
does not necessarily explain the meaning of the word when we apply it to an online software
device. Some people think App as a software program. It can be used online or on mobile
devices. Clearly, the word has a specific use, for example a shopping app that can be
accessed while using mobile devices. According to Brooks, in most uses of the word App,
the meaning is not always obvious because some are very broad whereas others are narrow

as they do not always perform many tasks (14-16). But the context in which the term is used
has the same thing in common since they are all a piece of software program that are
designed to be used in mobile devices or on webs.
Since the meaning has already been figured out, the next issue is to ask why people
should care about Apps. There are three good reasons for this. Firstly, Apps are always free
for people. Users do not need to purchase a software license which is rather expensive. Most
often, people are asked to pay for monthly subscriptions for the programs they want to install
in their mobile devices or in their computers. But users just download Apps that they want to
use. This means that people will not necessarily purchase the license fee. Secondly, Apps are
faster, as well as more efficient. Apps provide users a more effective way for them to use this
software in business.
As such, with an app, one can easily go online. He/She can also register or sign up for
an account. Within a few minutes, a user will be using the software program. Lastly, Apps are
used in businesses to raise productivity and to attract customers. Once a business owner is
equipped with a mobile device or staff members mobile devices, the application increases
the possibility of performing all kinds of tasks or business work no matter when the users are
out of office or when they are traveling. As such, a mobile app makes it easier to carry out
business tasks, such as online payment for goods and services or when accessing to bank
accounts.
Although both business owners and customers benefit from Apps installed in the web
or mobile devices, there are still problems in popularizing the use of them. One problem is
that many people do not understand the potential benefits what Apps can provide, because

there are potential benefits lying in the marketing platform. There is another question that
many people should know the truth that Apps work for all types of businesses. In most cases,
an App provides the benefit of getting customers wherever they are in the most convenient
way. Whats more, an App offers an exciting experience. Besides, there is a very difficult
area for small businesses because it is a hard task to make an App that can combine social
elements with discounts or rewards. To solve this problem, people must have worked out a
creative idea before they give up the idea of using Apps to market their products.
To better realize the functions of Apps, there comes the hardest question. The question
is how people get benefits from using these Apps. It is a simple issue but very difficult to
answer because it may be not easy to know where are the clients and how exactly one may
get benefits from using the App. Hence, the expectations of using Apps may be unrealistic in
the long-run (Salz and Jennifer, 54). But there is a way to make more people use Apps. For
example, the one who uses a certain App can get rewards or discounts. This way is attractive.
So the customers may decide to use Apps again and again. But, this is a quite new platform.
Many people will engage themselves with this, so there will come stiff competition.
Therefore, it is a wise idea to design an application that meets the needs of clients. In this
way, makers can ensure that their businesses can achieve their goals.
In a brief, App is a new technology that has become more and more popular among
people. Hence, developing an App is a good idea. It can help customers and business owners
get benefits because of using a good design of an App, especially a good design to conduct
marketing. As a result, to better realize business goals, an App is a valuable opportunity,
because it can help a company better communicate with customers. As a matter of fact, the

goals of business can be achieved by designing an App with essential features for the
targeted market segment. So no matter what the questions business owner will meet in
developing an App, they will work hard to solve the problems. With the rapid development
of technology, different kinds of app have play a crucial role in social media. Under this
circumstances, a kind of popular and usual apps--Social Media Application has been
attracted more people to use it.
In recent years, the worldwide use of smart phones has great contribution to the rapidly
emergence of mobile application. Among various categories of mobile apps, social apps are
one of those with the greatest growth in 2013 (Hsiao, 342). Social Media Application, as a
new media production, has a fast developing pace in the current society. Many researchers
and engineers have contributed to this important and modern production of our life. The
development of Social Media Application is not only in huge amount, but also in different
types, which means the development of Application is easy to be found in different fields
such as banking systems, social media and mobile application systems. The rest part is going
to discuss what factors push the rapid development of Social Media Application, why does
application develop so fast and how does it work during our daily life.
First of all, lets start the introduction from Social Media Application development in
mobile systems. As we all know, mobile industry is developing in a fast pace, while its
appearance, functions, and networks are being updated day by day. Application on mobile
systems is also a typical one. It is not only an opportunity, but also a business chance for
mobile products to increase their career. The goal of changing the mobile application for
products is to attract more and more customers to a large extent. Even the mobile activities

are already everywhere of peoples life, it is still a necessary trend for mobile to change and
become more attractive. Mobile is already not only a communicating method, but also a
necessary facilitation that can help people to change their lifestyle into a more effective and
interesting one. People could apply this because of the mobile application. For example, the
mobile application of Facebook is a typical one. Because the app is new, there arent many
users, and as a rule social media necessitates mores user in order to promote interaction
between friends (Aldava, 2016). People can only log on to Facebook through computer
several years before. In terms of this, it is a restrictive situation for people to mingle with
others. However, with the development of mobile application, people, nowadays, could log
onto their Facebook account anytime and everywhere if they want. Thanks to the
development of mobile application, humans life becomes easier and more efficient.
Through this introduction, I believe the Social Media Application has its own reasons
to be flourished. With a fast pace of development of Internet in new world, Social Media
Application has got a place to develop by itself. Nowadays, people can communicate with
each other very convenient and efficient via Social Media Application as well as Internet
even they are very busy and living far away from each other. Thanks to the Internet, there is a
good opportunity for Social Media Application to develop.
At the same time, social network is a necessary lifestyle for everybody in current
society. Just like what I have said in last paragraph, people who live in 21 st Century have new
and different lifestyles other than people in the past. They do not use letters and even phones
to communicate. Sometimes, as far as I am concerned, Social Media Application is already
beyond a way to communicate with people, it becomes a new lifestyle especially for young

people in current society. They prefer to show themselves off over Social Media, and gather
information from other on the Internet.
Last but not least, the development of Application on mobile device, such as cell
phones, pads, provides more convenient way for people to communicate with each other via
social media applications. Several decades ago, when Social Media Applications just
flourished, people can only use them on computer, in which it has a big limit for Social
Media Applications to develop. However, with rapid development of mobile devices, it is a
new opportunity for Social Media Software to develop its mobile application. Accompany
with the development of mobile Internet and mobile device, Social Media Applications are
developing in a fast pace. Now, we can see every different Social media Applications on
diverse mobile devices. New devices have more powerful functions and are more stable
when it is thinking. People could have a better feel when trying to use Social Media
Applications via mobile device as well as they can have a better feel when use Social Media
Application everywhere in their life instead of just using Social Media Applications on
computer when they are in their offices or classrooms.
In a nutshell, Social Media Application has become an important method for people in
current society to communicate with each other, while it is also an efficient passenger for
people to pass information. Because of its importance and significance, Social Media
Application had a very fast pace of development. It provided people with a world containing
a more culturally diverse environment, it gives people a place to communicate where is more
free and various, it creates a better opportunity for business man to expand their market from
Social Media Application on computers to Social Media Application on mobile devices. In a

all of reasons make it come like what it looks like right now.
Draw a conclusion, keeping step with the fast development of society and technology, it
is unavoidable for various Apps to emerge rapidly in different electronic products. App is a
powerful tools which has many functions, such as communicating or doing business and so
on. Moreover, Apps, such as social media apps, have changed humans lifestyle and make
life more convenient. Meanwhile, company or enterprises have made generous profits with
full use of social media apps. However, apart from these positive influences, the popular of
different kinds of apps also will bring some negative influences which we do not consider
about. Though the negative influences do not mentioned in this essay, people also pay
attention to the negative influences when they enjoy apps.
