Time Frame: 40 Minutes

Objective(s):
Students will know and be able to

Draw different types of lines and designs that will represent themselves as individuals.

Understand that it is good to be unique.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will understand that each person is unique and special in their own way.
Students will begin to respect each others differences.

Standards:
Analyze Art Elements and Principles of Design
1.5 Identify and describe elements of art in works of art, emphasizing line, color, shape/form, texture, space, and value.

Rationale:
This lesson is an art lesson that also addresses socialization issues that many students with special needs face. We are
each unique, but we also need to respect and appreciate eachothers differences and special qualities.

Differentiation for to meet student needs and levels of understandings:


Purple group generally needs more attention. They will work with IA to complete their pictures.
Teacher will monitor students and re-teach/model as needed.

Lesson Plan
Whole Group Setting 20-30 minutes
1. Teacher use flex cam to read story Only One You.
2. Teacher will ask students to share what they see that is unique about different fish on different pages as they read.
3. Teacher will introduce art project, and state that each of us are different like the fish in the book. We each have colors
that we like or patterns. We are each unique.
Small Group/Independent Setting 20 minutes
1. Teacher will have already taught whole group.
2. IA will encourage studnets to draw different types of lines and shapes to create their own fish.
3. Students will cover all lines with black or other dark color crayon.
4. Students will color fish, cut them out and glue them onto blue construction paper.
5. Teacher will monitor student progress and encourage students to follow directions as needed.

Product:
Students will work to complete their own unique fish.
Students will use lines and colors to represent themselves.
