of the 2013 DSEP Conference to Our Understanding of the Psychology and Sport
Coaching Relationship." Sport & Exercise Psychology Review, 2014. Web. 11 Mar. 2016.
This article first pointed out that a connection between sports psychology and
coaching. The conference in which this article was written was how to examine the
coaching areas, and how the physiological views affects the performance, health and
well-being, and training and development from a coachs perspective. It also goes on the
show the importance of psychology and coaching has been addressed in different areas
including leadership styles, creation of positive learning atmosphere, and interpersonal
connections in sports. This is a great source because, the main purpose of the article is not
all about a review of psychology in sports, but it is how psychology has been affecting
many aspects of the sports and showing continuous themes throughout.

Skills Training for Sports Coaches10.3 (2014): n. pag. The British Psychological
Society, 2014. Web. 11 Mar. 2016.
In the article, Coaching under Pressure: Mental Skills Training for Sports
Coaches, goes into depth about the different ways coaching handle the jobs they all have
to deal with. The jobs they have to associate with are training and competition, working
through training plans with the flexibility to adapt in certain game situations, coping with
the stress and intensity of the games, along with the media and always the pressure of
success. It goes on to show the mental skills training that is present in sports along with
the players emotional states and his psychological abilities. The experiments and
examples shown in the article really relate how anxiety and pressure can affect many
actions in a sporting event.
Olusoga, Peter. "Coaching under Pressure: Part Two Stress in Elite Sports Coaching." Sport
Psych Notes. Sheffield Hallam University, 26 Feb. 2013. Web. 15 Mar. 2016.
In this article, Peter talks about the fact that even though the roles of coaches are
important, the most important role as a coach is that they are all performers. Coaches are
all on the line to perform well for them to keep their jobs on all levels of sporting events.
The article continues to show that the main reason coaches, who have performed at the
highest levels, are stressed and worried is that lack of cohesion amongst his staff and
players. The article puts the responses of how to react to the coaches into two main
categories: immediate reactions and long term effects. This article is great for my service
project because it shows how I can categorize and see how the players react to the
coaching.

Stewart, Craig. "Failure to Rehire: Why Coaches Get Fired." Physical Educator. N.p., 1 Oct.
2014. Web. 15 Mar. 2016.
This article, "Failure to Rehire: Why Coaches Get Fired," puts into perspective
how some coaches are put under the heat of the job to perform well or not be hired at
all. This work tries to identify some of the reasons why coaches are not hired, starting
from the public school level, as they are measured on their performance on the field
instead of their teaching abilities. The article goes on to show that many schools have got
caught up in the fact they want a winning team instead of staying with a coach that is
teaching his athletes more about life and preparing them for the future as well. This
article is important because of the pressure coaches are put under to win more than
anything else.

This article, "Coaching the Basics on and off the Court," takes a more personal
excerpt that shows how coaching can be more than just winning and losing. The article is
a story of how a man, Jim McGannon, had everything he wanted by playing professional
sports, but how he took that experience and gave back to the sport. The article goes on to
show that Jim went on to teach and establish his own camps in basketball to help children
and athletes who have never been taught the skills of the sport. This article is an
important piece that shows how important coaches are in the lives of young children and
athletes.

This article, Abuse of Power, talks about how in todays sports many coaches
are getting bad looks from the outside due to their abuse on their players. This abuse,
however, may not be physical as it has been in the past but most of the sources who
accuse coaches of abuse are on the more mental side. Examples are shown in the article
that say that the coaching styles which consist of yelling and criticism have been failing
due to the fact that the players are getting more affected than in previous times. This is
one of the most important articles due to the fact that it puts into perspective the
negativity a coach can have on his athletes with the power he possesses.
