Name of Supervisors: Justin Shaddick, Andrew Dick, Mike
Halley
Date: Aug. 2015-May 2016
Internship Goal #1: I will learn essential and effective
techniques as well as participate in and practice communicating
with and involving the community and stake holders.
ISSLC Standard Addressed: Standard 4: A school
administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of
all students by collaborating with families and community
members, responding to diverse community interests and needs
and mobilizing community resources.
Goal Reflection:
I was able to accomplish this goal by working with parents in
a variety of ways. First, creating a staff parent contact from and
competition to reach out to parents was designed and used. Also, I
created a new form and lead the team towards implementing new
format of team parent teacher conferences. Additionally,
contacting parents in the context of discipline and recruiting has
provided many opportunities to work with parents. Lastly,
developing partnerships with the hospital and other local agencies
has been a great success of the 2015-2016 school year. I look
forward to continuing and developing similar partnerships.

Internship Goal #2: I will work to develop my understanding
and involvement in managerial duties of the principalship while
also participating in related activities.
ISSLC Standard Addressed: Standard 3: A school
administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of
all students by ensuring management of the organizations,
operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective
learning environment.
Goal Reflection:
Throughout the experience I was able to work with my
mentors to develop an understanding of the managerial duties.
These included filing forms, coding classes, managing personnel
paperwork and arranging testing. While I did get to participate in
some of these tasks, I dont think I truly was able to get a feel for
how much of it takes place. The paperwork component seems
extensive, even daily emails I would consider cumbersome and
managerial in mature. Lastly, this is still my weakness. The
organization required is still something I work very hard at every
day. It does not come naturally. But Dr. Dick and Dr. Sealey have
helped me try to create positive and organized habits to aid in my
development.

Internship Goal #3: I will learn refine and continue to define my
personal administrative platform. While doing this I am to utilize
my mentors to extend my understanding of school ethics and
professionalism
ISSLC Standard Addressed: Standard 5: A school
administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of
all students by acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical
manner.

Goal Reflection:
My favorite and the most important part of the
internship for me was working with the mentors. While I
understand a strong component of the process is working
on real projects and tasks, the conversations and times I got
to participate with them were the most valuable. I truly
sought to learn from each, and was able to do so. The three
administrators I shadowed have very different styles and
strengths and it was important to see the diversity.
Because I so valued you this time I sought to have multiple
meetings before, during and after the internship to reflect
and receive feedback.

Internship Goal #4: I will continue to develop the skills and
aptitude necessary to fulfill the duties of creating a positive school
culture and instructional programming including staff professional
development.
ISSLC Standard Addressed: Standard 2: A school
administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of
all students by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school
culture and instructional program conducive to student learning
and staff professional growth.
Goal Reflection:
This area was obtained by my driven passion for the vision of
my program and our district. Most of my projects were geared
towards growing our program. This being said, I really have
worked to communicate what I mean more effectively. Sometimes
my passion is not perceived as such and it is something that
especially Mr. Shaddick and I have worked on over the past several
years. I believe that I have positive influence in my program but
this year I really worked to extend that beyond and into the
community and main building. It is a different scenario in the
bigger scene but the experiences and successes as well as some
familiars has helped me find a foundation to build on in the future.
Im now thoroughly convinced the internship component never
ends as a building leader, one must be willing to constantly grow,
improve and use the strengths of those around them.
