Volcano Locations and Characteristics Help Sheet

Volcano This is the name of the volcano. There is a link on my Weebly site
that is helpful. Use any other source that works and gives reliable
information. Wikipedia works pretty well.

Location This column gives the general location. When you are mapping
your volcanoes please try to get them as close to their actual locations as
possible.
Boundary Type Once you have located your volcano, look to see which
boundary type it is near. Is it a divergent, convergent, or transform
boundary? Use clues and maps of Earths tectonic plates to figure this
out.
Volcano Types There are three main types of volcanoes: cinder cones,
stratovolcanoes (also called composite volcanoes), and shield volcanoes.
Which type is each one?
Magma Type(s) There are several different types of magma. Each type of
magma has a different chemical composition that mirrors a type of
igneous rock.
% Silica Silica is a chemical in rocks. Find out how what percent of the
magma is composed of silica. This will usually be expressed as a range.
You may need to search for the silica content for the igneous rock.
Eruption Type There are two primary types of volcanic eruptions. Quiet
eruptions occur when the magma simply pours out of a volcano without
a major explosion. An explosive eruption involves a devastating
explosion and can be extremely hazardous. There re different types of
explosive eruptions.
