Mercury

Everything in space

Of the 8 big planets that orbits the sun. It is

the smallest and closest to the sun. Mercury
is about the size of our moon and gets very
hot at day and very cold at night.

Venus
Venus is the hottest planet in our solar
system. Most of Venus is covered in lava, hot
rock that comes from volcanoes. You can see
Venus at night; it looks like the brightest star
in the sky.

Earth
Earth is our home and the only planet known
to support life. Most of the earth is covered
by oceans.

Mars
Mars looks reddish because there is a lot of
iron in the rocks on the surface. Mars has 2
moons: Phobos and Deimos.

Saturn

Uranus

Saturn has thousands of rings that are made

up of bits of icy rocks; some as small as specks
of dust. Saturn has at least 53 moons.

Uranus is tipped onto its side and is called

Uranus. This planet is the coldest of our 8 big
planets. It has at least 27 moons.

www.123homeschool4me.com

Jupiter
Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar
system; all the other planets in our solar
system could fit inside it. It looks cloudy
because it spins very fast pulling clouds into
bands around the earth.

www.123homeschool4me.com

Neptune
Like Jupiter, Neptune is known as a gas giant.
This planet has wild weather with winds more
than 1,000 miles an hour. It takes Neptune
165 years to travel all the way around the sun.

Dark spots on the sun that are cooler than the rest of the sun; the more sun
spots on the sun the hotter the earth is.

Revolve means to move around something else; rotate means turning
Why do we see color? What color has short waves?
The color of the sun is actually all the colors of the rainbow red, orange,
yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. We see color based on how long the
waves are and what light gets stuck in when the length of the waves stop.
What is a solar eclipse?
A solar eclipse happens when the sun gets hidden behind the moon and for a A
few moments during the day you can't see the sun. Sometimes there are up to
five in one year; but they can't be seen from everywhere on earth.
