Ukulele Lesson 2
Grade Level: 7th & 8th
Objective(s):
1. Students will review Ukulele history, proper holding and strumming technique, and parts of the
ukulele in groups.
2. Students will be able to play and write down 2 chords G, Am.
3. Students will be able to play along with Stand By Me by Ben E. King.

Procedures:
1. Teacherwillgreettheclass,pointouttheinstructionsontheboard,andassigngroupsof34to
completethesetaskswithina10minutetimeframe:

2. Teacherwillcallongroupstosharetheirstringpluckingpatternwiththeclass.Teacherwill
writeeachgroupspatterndownandeveryonewillplaythemasaclass.
3. Teacherwillcallongroupstosharetheirukulelehistoryfact.
4. Teacherwillpointtoukulelepartsforclasstosayaloud.
5. Teacherwillasktheclasstoteachherhowtoholdtheukulele,stepbystep.

Assessment:
Teacher will observe for proper execution of classroom ukulele procedures. (group assessment)
Teacher will observe for student understanding of ukulele holding technique, history, and string
names by assessing each small group. (individual/group assessment)
Teacher will assess student chord charts and finger positions throughout the lesson.
(individual assessment)
Teacher will give a Ukulele Quiz at the end of the unit to assess learning. (individual assessment)
