Students will:
-Demonstrate teamwork while cooperating in capture the flag
-Model positive leadership to other students in the class by following the rules
-Demonstrate respectful communication skills while playing capture the flag
Assessment:
-I will observe if the students are using the strategy we have previously discussed to deal with fair play/conflicts in
order to show respectful communication to one another. (Rock-paper-scissors)
-I will observe how well each student is playing by the rules of the game. I will make anecdotal notes where
possible. (Keep an eye on how well Alla abides by the rules and if he needs further instruction.)
Introduction: (3 mintues) Once in the gymnasium- students will run two quick laps and sit around the center circle.

Warm up: (5-7 mins)

Buffalo Run: Students will sit back to back with a partner outside of the volleyball court. When
the music starts, each set of partners will get up and begin to run/ walk/ gallop (I will call out
what they do) around the outside of the court. When the music stops, students must find their
partners again without going backwards; therefore, if they just passed their partner, they must run
back around and meet up with partner. This activity will require communication, participation
and cooperation with partners.
Tell students that the middle (Inside the volleyball court) is lava. This way students will stay
on the outside.
Transition: (3 mins) Tell students to Freeze. Students will sit around the circle and wait for
instructions to the next activity. Ask students to help set up for next activity.
Activity: (10-15 mins)
Capture the flag -There will be two equal teams. On each side of the court there will be two
jails (hula hoop) and one area where the flags are (hula hoops with pinnies inside and cones
surrounding it)
-Students will run through the other teams area to get to their flags. Once they have one, they
must try and bring it back over to their side without being tagged. If tagged, they go into the
opposing teams jail. In order to be saved, someone must run through and tag them and they can
run back safely together.

Closure: With 5 minutes left, yell and stop. Ask students to put the pylons, hula hoops and
pinnies away and meet at their groups and talk about the good things that happened today.
Ask students if they remember what cooperation means? Ask each student to show with
their fingers how well they thought their class did today with cooperation (1 being they did
not cooperate well together, 5 being they cooperated very well together)

Line students up on the red line near the door single file and take them back to the classroom.

Safety considerations:
-Benches around the sides
-Students should be aware of hula hoops and
pylons while playing
-Students should be reminded to keep their
heads up while running
