Risk assessment: Are there any health and safety issues you may encounter?
As I am using Lego in the production of this TV advert there will only be very small risks in
what I am doing, there should be no Lego lying around on the floor as people could tread on
it and hurt themselves and at no point should people attempt to eat the Lego.
Discuss any legal issues you may face. Eg; sound, plagiarism, age restrictions
There a very high chance that Legal issues will come into place during the production of this
advert as the Copyright law will come into it, I am looking to use commercially available
music which means music that already exists. If the artist want to they might want to take
action with this and take down my video for Copyright. To prevent this I will email the artist
for permission if I can use their music in my production. Because Lego as a product is aimed
from 3 years onwards my advert will not be shown at a time where this age group is
available to watch it otherwise I can be prosecuted for false advertising or misleading
information. Plagiarism is another issue I might encounter, as I am making an advert for an
existing product which isnt my own then they might want to take action for this and involve
Copyright.
What are the different possibilities you could explore using this format?
As I am using Lego men they have adjustable arms and legs meaning I can do more than
just shuffle them along the screen, I can give them a proper effect of walking and moving
objects using these things to help me. It makes the advert look more professional or glossy
as the brief says. I can also use the Lego itself to advertise the product which is what I am
going to try and achieve. To do this I will have the lego men using their building blocks to
create a structure the shape of an L.
What are the limitations of using this format? (i.e what problems/ obstacles might you
have?)
The only limitations I might encounter is that there will be strobing in my final production.
Strobing is when the frame rate isnt quick enough and Persistence of Vision doesnt take
place and the film looks to jagger, meaning the movements dont look smooth.

Subject
What will the subject of your animation be?
The subject of my animation is to advertise Lego as a product and stop motion animation. I
will do this using stop motion techniques and using products made by Lego. The main
subject will be the Lego men and the Lego in the production as they are always in shot. This
is a good advertising technique because it is all the audience can see, the product.
Storyline
Describe the storyline of your animation. What events will happen to your characters?
There will be loads of Lego scattered across a Lego platform. Using stop motion the two
characters build themselves and start to clear from the rubble where they meet. They then
find some building blocks and begin to pick up Lego bricks and place them onto the platform
in which they stand. They grab certain parts to place on the board. The camera angle
changes from a close up to a birds eye view to show what the two are beginning to make. It
then switches back to the other camera as they carry on grabbing pieces to their structure.
Using stop motion I will have to move each of their body parts very small amounts each time
so the movement is smooth when I come to editing this piece. Once the two have built this
structure they will climb to the top using help from each other to stand on what they have
made, at this point the camera will change for one last time and the final letters of the word
Lego will appear and the advert will end having advertised the product. Once this is done
the characters get a close up for a final wave goodbye.

My audience will be interested in Kids TV and Toys. Lego is a toy for kids and therefore the
advert will be aired during the time of Kids shows, because it is what they are interested in.

My animation is all based on Lego. Children love Lego and if they see characters moving
they will be drawn in by this. I know that my advert will suit my target audience as Lego has
been a part of most childrens lives for decades. With a new type of animation being used to

Dope sheets
A dope sheet is an animation tool which helps a animator organise the animation shot-byshot.
This gives the camera operator instructions on each shot type and how many frames this will
be used for.
A dope sheet is usually split into 5 different sections.
For example;
Because you will be working with video, you will be using 30fps. You will need to complete a
dope sheet for EVERY SECOND of your animation.
i.e, if you make a 30 second animation, you will need to complete 30 dope sheets.
This will be a time-consuming task, but it will help you understand what will need to
happen in each of the shots you take. The higher marks will come from a detailed and
careful collection of dope sheets. For example, if your characters speaks, you will need to
show the mouth forming every shape in order to look effective.
