Anticipatory Set:

What do you think of when you think of ancient egyptian art?
2.
How many people think of the beautiful pyramids, or hieroglyphics, or tradition? Do you
also think about paintings and sculpture, musical instruments and dance? Those too were an
important part of the Ancient Egyptian culture

Procedures:
1. TTW ask the students What do you think of when you think of ancient egyptian art?
2. TSW reflect on what they thought of for ancient egyptian art and the other components they
may not have thought of
3. TTW present the powerpoint.
4. TTW show the Egyptian Painting, sculpture, and architecture and give students a moment to
view and form thoughts
5. TTW explain hieroglyphics
6. TTW encourage students to use the hieroglyphic alphabet provided to create a word or two
about the painting (Ex: such as royalty, throne)
7. Have a student from each group come up and present their words and have the class guess
what they wrote
8. TTW continue to the powerpoint and further discuss the remaining aspects of egyptian art
9. TSW in small table groups select one of the four types of dance:
a. Enthronement of a new king
b. Religious functions - muu, men wearing crowns of reeds.
c. Funerals
d. Exotic dancers exercised a special attraction
10. TSW perform their dances for the entire class using various steps and hand clapping
11. TSW guess which dance ceremony their peers are portraying
