GRAMATIC GRAMMAR
Mai nti i dezvlui un secret: limba englez are o gramatic mai simpl dect limba
romn. Prin urmare, mai uor de nvat. Forma de plural a substantivelor este
obinut, n general, prin adugarea terminaiei s: apple-apples(mr-mere), catcats(pisic-pisici), dog-dogs(cine-cini), bat- bats(liliac-lilieci), horse-horses(calcai),
leg-legs(picior-picioare),
windowwindows(ferastr-ferestre),
mirrormirrors(oglind-oglinzi), door-doors(u- ui)...
Excepie fac substantivele cu form de plural neregulat: man-men(brbat- barbai),
woman-women(femeie-femei), foot-feet(talp-tlpi), ox-oxen(bou- boi), mousemice(oarece-oareci), goose-geese(gsc-gte), sheep- sheep(oaie-oi), childchildren(copil-copii)...
a exprima pronumele tu ct i dumneavoastr.
Spre
exemplu, adjectivul smart-iste: She is a smart girl. He is a smart kid. They are
smart people.
englez: to be, to have i to do, adic a fi, a avea i a face. Fiecare dintre ele poate
ndeplini i funcia de verb auxiliar.

Parents and their children are very much alike. They sometimes look the same, feel

Prinii i copiii lor seamn foarte mult. Ei arat uneori la fel, simt la fel, acioneaz
la fel. Adesea mprtesc acelai sistem de valori, aceleai convingeri i preri,

Everybody is eager to find out what the future has in store for him or for her.
Everybody wants to know what he or she will become in a few years. We all want to
know if our dreams will come true and what difficulties we will have to cope with.
But the future depends very much on what we do in the present.
dificulti vom avea de-a face.
prezent.
Timpul va decide
Jim Patrick: This is a good topic to talk about: future. As far as I am concerned, I am
a dreamer.
Minnie Jones: And you probably know what they say: Happy are those who
dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come
true. (i tii probabil ce se spune: Fericii sunt cei care viseaz visuri i sunt gata
Jim Patrick: Well, this can be a problem. I am not sure if I am ready to pay the price
of all my dreams. I think some of them are really impossible. (Ei bine, asta poate fi o
problem.
Minnie Jones: You may know French people say Impossible does not exist.
Jim Patrick: I am not French at all. I am just an Englishman and I have only English
dreams. Dont laugh at me, my dear Minnie. (Dar eu nu sunt francez. Sunt
doar un englez i am visuri englezeti. Nu rde de mine, draga mea Minnie.)
Minnie Jones: Im not laughing at you at all. But you made me very curious: what
impossible dreams do you have? (Nu rd de tine deloc. Dar m-ai fcut foarte
curioas: ce visuri imposibile ai?)
Jim Patrick: I have at least one and it is a sort of a secret. Only Paula knows
about it. And she has promised not to laugh at me. (Am cel puin unul i est eun
fel de secret. Doar Paula tie despre el. i a promis s nu rd de mine.)
Minnie Jones: I can keep a secret. And I make a promise to you: I wont laugh at you!
What is it? (Pot pstra un secret. i i fac o promisiune: n-o s rd de tine. Care
este secretul tu?)
Jim Patrick: I always wanted to be an actor. I think I have the skills for it. But
talking about the price, I think I was never prepared to pay the price of fame.
Minnie Jones: I think this is not a foolish dream but Im not sure if it is fit for you.
Jim Patrick: You may be right. Anyway, Im not too proud of my secret dream.
Minnie Jones: Dont worry! Your secret is safe with me. But you must know it is
never too late for dreams to come true.
Jim Patrick: You must be joking. Youve promised not to laugh at me(Glumeti
Minnie Jones: A promise is a promise. Who is laughing? (O promisiune este o
promisiune. Cine rde?)

Jim Patrick: Excellent choice. You have chosen a very attractive subject matter to
talk about. Im very interested in this field. Well, I am definitely an early bird. I have
no doubt about it. (Excelent alegere.

Minnie Jones: We are also early birds, me and Al. But I am the earliest: each
morning is a real workout for the entire day: I spend my time preparing
freshly squeezed juice for breakfast and watering my plants. (i noi suntem matinali,
eu i Al.
pentru micul dejun i udndu-mi plantele.)
Jim Patrick: I perfectly understand you. Unfortunately, my wife is just the opposite of
me. Paulas morning ritual consists of dress, eat something rapidly and get out the
door in fifteen minutes. I will never be able to understand her. (Te neleg perfect. Din
nefericire, soia mea este exact opusul meu. Ritualul matinal al Paulei const n
mbrcare, nghiit ceva pe fug i ieit pe u n 15 minute. N-o s-o neleg
niciodat.)
Minnie Jones: An early bird will never understand a night owl. Im just joking. (Un
matinal n-o s neleag niciodat o pasre de noapte. Glumesc.)
Jim Patrick: Well it isnt a joke. We have many problems because of these different
rhythms of life. (Nu este chiar o glum. Avem multe probleme din cauza ritmului
diferit de via.)

significantly less marital adjustment and more marital conflicts. (Psihologii spun c

time in shared activities. (Firesc: petrec mai puin timp purtnd discuii serioase i au
mai puine activiti commune.)
Minnie Jones: I always wake up before the alarm goes off. Sometimes Im in the
kitchen already preparing breakfast and Al is in his favourite armchair reading
the morning newspaper. (Eu m trezesc ntotdeauna nainte s sune ceasul. Uneori
sunt deja n buctrie i pregtesc micul dejun, iar Al este n fotoliul lui preferat i

Paula rolls over in bed, moans and presses the snooze button. We are an odd
couple, arent we? (i mie mi se ntmpl. Dimpotriv, dup ce sun ceasul, Paula
se rsucete n pat, geme i apas butonul de alarm. Suntem un cuplu ciudat,
