Ceramics II: ... Is your teapot functional?
Sculpture: Did you use clay? Or another material? How did your material work?
Materials/Vocab:
-Clay and tools
-Sketch paper
-Paper mache material
-Monster images--google
-Teacher Example
Activities: Every day starts with sketch of the day
Day 1Intro to Art- You have already drawn your monster (4 orthographics). Now you will use
your drawings to bring your monster to life. Look closely at your drawing--how does each shape
interact with the other shapes of your drawing? What shape is your monster? Use the pinch pot
method to create a hollow form. Then you can use coil and slab to add onto your form.
Ceramics I- Introduce monster images. Students will sketch a monster (use imagination).
You will use your sketch to create a 3-D form out of clay. Use pinch pot to create a hollow form,
then coil and slab to add onto the creation. Think about your connections! Remember you need
a hole in your hollow object. Think about how your object will stand.
Ceramics II- Introduce monster images. This pot will be a teapot! Sketch an idea. You
will create a functioning teapot that looks like a monster. Along with the teapot, you will create 4
tea cups and saucers to match it. These do not have to look like your monster, but they do need
to be in unison ( you need something that visually connects them all). Use any method
necessary, but it must be functional.
Sculpture- Introduce monster image.

For this class, you may use
any material, as long as your monster is 3-D.
Begin working on your project. Studio time.
Day 2- Students are working on projects. Observe the class to make sure students are doing
okay! All classes are on the 3-D part.

Day 3-7-Studio days. check progress.

Day 8-12- Studio days. Some may be done/close to being done. For the students who are done,
ask them to write the characteristics and any problems they came across/how did they fix them.
Day 12-14?16- End of 14/16th day, hand in project.
Day 17-18- Glaze and hand in for firing again!
