Growth Plan
Goals for 1st Year of Teaching
Some goals that I have set for myself this first year of teaching would be to contain my
classroom management, communication with staff, and communication between my students.
Classroom management is big part of the puzzle in creating a safe and positive learning
environment for students, so I would immediately begin the school year by ensuring students
understand the procedure I set in place for the classroom. Also, I think as a first year teacher it
is very important to communicate and know the faculty within the school since these can be
resources throughout the year when a question or concern may arise with a certain lesson or
student. Lastly, I will want to build communication with my students because I think if students
understand that I am there to help their academic success they will be more open to talking to
me and staying on track of their assignments. Working with junior high students prior to this
position as a tutor/mentor in all subject areas Ive noticed students are scared to ask teachers
for help, which is something I want to ensure students dont feel within my classroom.
5 Year Plan
However, looking at long time goals I would hopefully want to have my Masters in counseling
because I want to be a well-rounded teacher where I can offer my best assistance to students in
the classroom. I would also like to help out with extra-curricular activities such as cross-country,
basketball, and student council by this time because I feel like this would be a great way for me
to interact with students and the community outside the classroom. In addition, I would hope
to have acquired a lot of feedback from my students so that I am able to alter my lessons and
make them meaningful every year.
Future Professional Organizations Participation
Some organizations that I plan to participate in are the AZtea. After reviewing and looking at
the AZtea website consistently I believe it would be a great opportunity to work and
understand how to build strong lesson plans that include technology.
Lifelong Interest in Education
Since I started the AZteach program through Arizona State University my passion for education
has dramatically changed because I understand the value of becoming a life-long learner. I wish
to instill that same value in my students to continually learn about the world around them, in
and outside of the classroom.
