Lesson one Day one


Daily topic: Reading on Dental Hygiene
Objectives: The students will discover the importance of dental hygiene and share their
experience.
Procedures:

Show the Berestain Bears Visit the Dentist episode


on YouTube on the SMART board.

o Show an example of a word cloud, and then
have the students create one about dental
hygiene in any word cloud shape on their iPad to print off in class and post on the

If the gifted students finished earlier than everyone, give accommodated
assignment.
Give Autistic and non-native students a tactile activity as others finish
word clouds and stick them to the wall.

Materials: iPads for each student, the SMART board, printer, tape, playdough (white, pink, tan
and red)
How do you accommodate students with:
-For gifted students, I will give a sheet to answer questions on a directed browsing activity.
-For Students with Autism and Non-native students, they can work a tactile activity of making a
mouth model out of playdough and label the different parts (tooth, tongue), based on a picture
of the mouth.

Assessment: The students will write a short story about a visit to the dentist. They must tell what
they will expect when going to the dentist or how the overall experience of the visit was if they
have already visited the dentist.

2. What is the purpose or function of enamel?
3. What are three risks that can cause gingivitis in your mouth? Is gingivitis
irreversible?

4. Is dinking fruit or vegetable juice good for dental health? Why?

Make a Mouth Model

Use the different colors of Playdough and make a model of a mouth.


Then draw a picture of the model and label the teeth, gums, tongue and lips.
