I am very pleased to write this letter of reference for Naia Kassebeer. As a faculty member of the
Kapiolani Community College (KCC) Nursing Program, I have watched this woman develop
both academically and professionally.
I was her instructor when she was a student in the Kapiolani Community College Nursing
Assistant and Practical Nursing Programs. Ms Kassebeer, Naia, continued to further her
education in the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Transition to Associate Degree in Nursing
(ADN) program. I was her clinical instructor in the first level medical-surgical acute care
rotation at the Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center.

Ms Kassebeer was eager to learn. Her experience as a nursing assistant and LPN facilitated her
ability to be more at ease in the clinical enviornment. Initially she lacked the confidence to
transition into the role of the student registered nurse. She was able to receive constructive
criticism, apply positive action and demonstrated improvement in areas of weakness. She
continued to apply more effort in seeking new knowledge to support appropriate plans of care for
her patients. Her confidence and assertiveness in clinical assessment and decision making
improved as she broadened her knowledge base.
Naia engaged in class discussions and contributed new learning points in clinical post
conferences. She developed good working relationships with her peers and the Kaiser staff. She
was trustworthy and accepted responsibility for providing safe, quality nursing care. Her
professionalism and communication skills improved.

Her enthusiasm for learning evolved to a new level as she advanced in her medical surgical
rotation. It has truly been my pleasure to observe Ms. Kassebeer as she continued to strive for,
and achieve success in her nursing education in the KCC nursing program.
