Procedures
1. Introduction Phase (engage students; set expectations; state outcomes)
Good morning everyone! Today we are going to learn a new note on our solfege
scale.
After we learn our new note, we will then learn a song that has a really fun game
with it!
Remind the students that in order to play the game, they need to try their best to
learn the song and the new note.
2. Focus Phase (describe learning experiences/activities; include differentiated learning
strategies)
What notes do we already know? (Sol, mi, la)
Go through solfege cards with only sol, mi, and la.

Introduce cards with low do.

Sing these cards first and have the students echo.
Put up rhythm of new song on overhead.
In your head, please think through the rhythm of this song.
Have everyone read the rhythm together.
Put up the rhythm plus solfege. Sing it though and have the students echo.
Now put up the rhythm, solfege, and lyrics overhead. Sing it and have the
students echo.
What words are we singing on our low do? (Mousie, Hurry, Hurry do)
Sing through the song one more time.
Explain game: Everyone is sitting in a circle and one person walks around the
circle while we sing the song. One person in the circle is secretly chosen to be the
mouse. Once the song is over, everyone yells Run! and the chosen person
jumps up and runs around the circle while the other person tries to tag them. That
person then gets a turn to walk around the circle.
Play until everyone gets a turn to be the mouse.

3. Closure Phase (reinforce, review, reflect on learning outcomes)

Have everyone go back to their seats.
Can anyone tell me what our new note was today? (Low do)
Have everyone show the low do hand sign.
Have everyone sing and repeat additional solfege cards.
Thank you for a great class today!
