RIP 2 My Youth

Artist
The Neighbourhood

Genre
Alternative Rock

What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

Group shots of the band.

Smart casual clothing (fairly popular within this particular genre).
Varies of natural lighting and side lighting.
Low angles of the lead singer.
Long shots to capture the narrative of the video.
Cut to the beat editing
Fading for slow tempo
Usually the speed of the editing (fast-pace or slow-pace) is determined by the
narrative of the overall music video.
Abnormal setting

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

My music video will be in narrative style and will follow the meaning of the song as
well as the story it is telling. The production will cut to the beat throughout the whole
production as well as using varied shots.

Costume

For costume my actors are going to wear everyday clothing to suit the age of
themselves by doing this I create a more detailed narrative for my music video.

Lighting

For lighting I will use natural lighting for the outdoor sequences.
I then plan to use in the studio a spotlight and projector specifically on the lead singer
and use photos to light up his face.

Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDTZ7iX4vTQ
Foster The People Pumped Up Kicks

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

These videos have influenced my video as they have the idea of the memories to
create their music video. I have then used this idea in my music video as I think it
was very effective for the audience as its relatable and creates a sentimental
response.

Lyrics
Insert the song lyrics below

R.I.P. to my youth
And you could call this the funeral
I'm just telling the truth
And you can play this at my funeral
Wrap me up in Chanel inside my coffin
Might go to Hell and there ain't no stopping
Might be a sinner and I might be a saint
I'd like to be proud, but somehow I'm ashamed
Sweet little baby in a world full of pain
I gotta be honest, I don't know if I could take it
Everybody's talking, but what's anybody saying?
Mama said if I really want to, then I can change, yeah yeah
R.I.P. to my youth
If you really listen, then this is to you
Mama, there is only so much I can do
Tough for you to witness it but it was for me too
I'm using white lighters to see what's in front of me
R.I.P. to my youth
And you could call this the funeral
I'm just telling the truth, yeah
You can play this at my funeral
Tell my sister don't cry and don't be sad
I'm in Paradise with Dad
Close my eyes and then cross my arms
Put me in the dirt, let me dream with the stars
Throw me in a box with the oxygen off
You gave me the key then you locked every lock
When I can't breathe, I won't ask you to stop
When I can't breathe, don't call for a cop
I was naive and hopeful and lost
Now I'm aware and trapped in my thoughts
What do I do? What do I do?
I don't believe it if I don't keep proof
I don't believe it if I don't know you
I don't believe it if it's on the news or on the Internet
I need a cigarette
I'm using white lighters to see what's in front of me
I'm using white lighters to see
R.I.P. to my youth
And you could call this the funeral
I'm just telling the truth
And you can play this at my funeral
Tell my sister don't cry and don't be sad
I'm in Paradise with Dad
Close my eyes and then cross my arms
Put me in the dirt, let me be with the stars

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?

The title is fairly self-explanatory, the meaning behind this song is about a person
looking back on how they lived their life and saying goodbye to their youthful days.

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)

Visually, the video will be in black and white and will be dark coloured for the scenes
when Josh is lip-syncing in the studio. I will use a illustrated images to be projected
on Joshs face when filming close up shots this will relate to his younger days and
will relate to the song as whole.

Storyboard
Insert your storyboard here

Think carefully about the shots you will be using. Consider the range of shots/angles
to give interest and perspective

Script
Description of what will happen in your video inc. camera
movements, angles etc

Music will start off and the footage will cut to the beat until the first line is heard.
Throughout the music video there will be various camera angles in order to make the
music video flow nicely and be interesting to the audience.

Mood board
Create a mood board showing what look your music video will have. Add images
showing ideas of mise-en-scene, characters, costumes and colours that will be
present in the different shots.
