Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive disorder, which is also known as OCD is commonly known when
someone does something unintentionally or arranges things to fit their needs such as: books in
alphabetical order, tallest to smallest, M&Ms organized by colors, an unbuttoned shirt, or washes
their hands frequently. Most people have always known that people that push for things like this
could be just rude people trying to get what they want. However, there is more to it than just
choice. It is an actual condition that is pushed to a disorder by stressors. Sadly, there is no cure,
but there are ways to help control the condition.

Dr. Dan J. Stein, writer for The Lancet says, For many years, obsessive-compulsive
neurosis was seen as a disorder that provided an important window on the workings of the
unconscious mind. Today, obsessive-compulsive disorder is viewed as a good example of a
neuropsychiatric disorder, mediated by pathology in specific neuronal circuits, and responsive to
specific pharmacotherapeutic and psychotherapeutic interventions. To simplify Steins
explanation of what OCD is. He tells us that OCD use to be things we did subconsciously
without realizing it. Now we have found out that the neuron signals to the brain, are being
intervened. There are other forces than the original source taking that signal and tweaking it a bit
to do other things.

There are causes to bring stronger compulsions. This is known as stressors, there are
different stressors and they all vary depending on the individual. Common stressors are known

as: Abuse, Change in living conditions, illness, death of a loved one, work or school related
problems, and even relationship problems. The stressors usually cause a worsened symptom. No
matter what if youre gonna have OCD youre gonna have it; There is no stopping it. You can do
things to make it appear later in life. Unfortunately, action needs to be taken in adolescence or
early adulthood. There are ways to help ease the suffering of OCD.

Not everyone is controlled by their symptoms, the severity of the condition changes
throughout everyone. Some people can go throughout life without others knowing they have
OCD. Others have a hard time performing other tasks due the condition. They seek medical
attention to help bring order to their disorder. Dr. Jonathan S. Abramowitz claims, Both
biological and cognitive models have led to empirical treatments for the disorderie, serotoninreuptake inhibitors and various forms of cognitive-behavioural therapy. New developments in the
treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder involve medications that work in conjuction with
cognitive-behavioural therapy, the most promising of which is D-cycloserine.

People with OCD are people too, they just have certain things in their brain that makes
them do it. Their brain just is hardwired differently. Things that we go through in life help bring
the disorder out of us. People are affected differently, no one is affected the same. Environment
will play a role of what symptoms we have. There are many things that will help people with
OCD get control over it, but no way to cure it.
