This week in FDK-3

We struggled with a flu-type BUG going through the class this

week. We had between 7-10 children absent every day this week.
Thank you for all your efforts to contain it!!

In Language: We worked on alphabet skills. We began looking more closely at the

lower case letters. We worked on matching and then printing the lower case letters
that look exactly like their upper case partners c,o,w,v, and s. We counted
syllables and rhymed words. We decoded 3 sound words using KARATE! We
wrote about what we most enjoyed on our nature walk this week.
Piper presented a book talk on The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Christeena shared
Owlford Owl with us. Both did an excellent job!
Miss Mason had us vote on our favourite Blue Spruce story. We exchanged our
books.
Gym: We worked on responding to music with our bodies and using various
equipment.and we played a round of Octopus just to LET LOSE!
We worked with Mrs. Boughners class on our Dance Fest Dance which is upcoming
on Thursday May 5. For those who are unable to attend, we will video the dance
AND all dancers from St. Mark will show their dances in our own gym on Friday
May 6 at 1:00.
Religion: We celebrated Mass as a school community. We celebrated new signs of
life. We continued to look for signs of new life and saw a video of signs that we
have been discussing. We went on a Nature Walk.
Science: We celebrated Spring weather and the signs of Spring. We went on a
nature walk. We brought back SEVERAL yard snails (empty) which Miss Angenent
used to make a nature sensory activity in the water table.

In Art: Miss Angngent worked with the children to make a TOP SECRET EXTRA
SPECIAL craft. SHHHHHHHHH!
In Music, Drama and Dance: Miss Angenent continues with Musical Lunches and
dance parties. Miss Angenent continued talking with the children about how music
makes them feel and how we move to different beats.
In Mathematics: We continued studying 3D shapes the sphere, cone, pyramid,
rectangular prism, cube and the cylinder. We nearly have the names down after
using some funny poems!
In Personal and Social Development: With the weather continuing to be up and
down, we continued to encourage the children to dress in layers. The rule at recess
is : NO BARE ARMS.
We had a Roots of Empathy visit from Mrs. Krug. She talked about things Baby
Alicia can do that she couldnt do before and then the children wrote about things
THEY can do that they couldnt do before.
In Inquiry/Directed Play: Miss Angenent encouraged the children to dig for bugs
in dirt and to find information about snails. With so many children away each day,
the dynamic of the class was very different day to day. Children ended up playing
with classmates that they normally wouldnt. We saw some creative uses of
materials and lots of larger group activities.
Other activities included fine motor and vocabulary development.
