The main purpose of this activity is to help students practice basic addition and subtraction math facts through movement. Students will play a game where the teacher yells out a math equation and the students must get into groups of that number without speaking. Students left out of groups must write the equation and answer at their desk. The activity allows students to work on memorizing math facts while being physically active.

Concomitant Objective: The students will also learn to be aware of the amount of people around them in order to get into the proper number of groups. They will learn to work with their classmates to solve the problem. Time Procedures Followed Materials Warm Up: The warm up for this activity will just be 10 _____ jumping jacks to get everyones blood pumping a little Minutes bit. Learnable Piece: We will be using the basic addition
and subtraction facts that we have been memorizing in class for the entire year.

Presentation of New Material/Directions: I will
explain to the students that we will be playing a game while also practicing our math facts. I will yell out an equation such as 7 +2 and the students will have to get into groups of that number. The students will not be allowed to speak during the game, so no one can yell out the answer. The student(s) that are left and not able to get into groups of that number will be out, and will have to return to their desk. When the students are out they will need to write down the equation I am yelling out as well as the correct answer on a piece of paper so that they are still participating.

Notes:
Transition: I will use a thumbs up or thumbs down to
make sure that everyone understood, as well as asking students to answer questions about the game. Activity: This activity would take place in the regular classroom, with the desks all pushed to the edge of the room. That way, the students can easily return to their desks to write the equations when theyre out. We will play multiple rounds. Possible Modifications:I can modify the difficulty of the equations I yell out depending on the group. I can make them easier if kids are getting out too quickly, or harder if it is too easy. Lesson Review: At the end I will ask students whether or not they liked the activity, and if they thought it helped them to memorize their math facts. We will talk about what they learned, and ask for suggestions on how to make the game better.
