Please add specific comments about the student teachers observed strengths during this
teaching practicum and identify areas in which you feel further development is
necessary.
Observed Strengths: /

Great introduction to the lesson by

questioning students about the important
key terms from the lesson.
Transition from engage to explore was
smooth.
Students were in groups and they were
well behaving.
You have very good control of the class.
You have lots of energy and the
instructions to the activity are very clear.
The think question was excellent. You
needed more of those questions into one
form and allow the students to collaborate
together and answer them.
________________________________________

You are very comfortable standing in front of

the class and instruct. You have very good
control of the class.
The students were very engaged.

Areas in which further development is needed:

Develop relationships or rapport with the student.

Provide more mode detailed information to students

answers. Students define axis as an imaginary line
from North Pole to South Pole. The definition is
correct. However, more probing questions are
needed for deeper understanding.
Provide students with challenging work which
requires collaboration. In this activity, the groups
were to replicate image from the board and define
rotation and axis. The definitions were already
given during the engagement.
Developing higher order thinking questions are
needed. Better understanding of axis is needed.
How would seasons be affected if the tilt was at a
different angle? How would day and night be
affected if rotation was slower or faster?
___________________________________________
Asking students to discuss a video is a little vague.
The teacher must focus the students attention.
Shadow is the effect and the cause of the shadows
were to be the focus of the lesson. Asking third
graders to find the correct shadow lack rigors.
This concept is not a concept which must be
remembered but understood. A shadow is a space
where light from a light source is blocked by an
opaque object. You could have used the shadows
the projector was creating while the students where
on the board.
Lesson was too teacher centered. You must be able
to review previous comment and make the
necessary changes.

The two higher order questions were never

discussed. You must facilitate the lesson by
discussing the answers with the students.
