PARTICIPATION REPORT, EDID6508

Reflection
Although participation in the forums continues to be a major challenge for me, I have
found that I interacted with my peers more in this course than any other, albeit on many
occasions outside of the discussion forum. These interactions came in the form of Whatsapp and
Skype conversations, where on several occasions, I either sought assistance from those who are
more technologically inclined, or engaged in discussions with peers concerning the challenges of
the course and how they could be addressed.
EDID6508 is a very practical and technical course, and despite the fact that I do enjoy
working on hands-on project, many aspects of the course took me out of my comfort zone. In
these moments, encouragement from some of my colleagues helped to propel me forward. I also
learned as much from viewing and responding to my peers submissions as I did from reading
and viewing tutorials. For me, seeing what my colleagues produced was both a challenge to keep
trying and an encouragement towards excellence. The weekly discussion forums, even when my
work was late, were definitely a valuable resource and critiquing my peers work helped me to
focus on more than merely meets the eye, and to zero in on the little factors that make a
multimedia project effective, and what does not.
Perhaps the greatest degree of interaction was achieved while working on the groups
multimedia project. There was a tremendous amount of discussion and exchange of ideas on a
daily basis several times per day. I was privileged to work with individuals from both ends of
the spectrum, one who is technologically competent, and another who, like me, is still learning a
number of things. In this environment, I both learned and taught and the difficulties which
presented themselves to the group were solved through talking.

The website evaluation took me full circle, in that the courses first activity required us to
evaluate websites. In the first instance, I did the evaluation based only on what I liked and what I
did not. In the second case, I was able to apply the skills that I learned to the evaluation of my
peers work.
The overall experience of participating in this course, though very challenging, was also
very rewarding.
