Standards (What do you want students to know and be able to do? What knowledge, skills, and strategies do you
expect students to gain? Are there connections to other curriculum areas and subject area benchmarks? ) Please
put a summary of the standards you will be addressing rather than abbreviations and numbers that indicate which
standards were addressed.

Geometry
MGSE5.G.1 Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a
coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to
coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an
ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number
indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the
second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with
the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g.,
x-axis and x-coordinate, y-axis and y-coordinate).

Content Standards

MGSE5.G.2 Represent real world and mathematical problems by graphing points in

the first quadrant of the coordinate plane, and interpret coordinate values of points
in the context of the situation.

Students will demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop

Overview (a short summary of the lesson or unit including assignment or expected or possible products)

The title of this lesson is Be the Boss. The purpose of this lesson is to teach my students to graph on
the coordinate plane using coordinates. The students will teach the class by making a 5 slide prezi
presentation teaching the class how to plot points on a coordinate plane. They will also make practice
questions for the class to plot on paper. Students will be able to practice coordinate planes using the
Coordinate Plane Interactive Website at the beginning of the class. At the conclusion of the lesson, the
students will use kahoot to take a quiz plotting points on a coordinate plane that is set up by the teacher.
The students will be graded on their presentation and the assessment.

Essential Questions (What essential question or learning are you addressing? What would students care or
want to know about the topic? What are some questions to get students thinking about the topic or generate
interest about the topic? Additionally, what questions can you ask students to help them focus on important
aspects of the topic? (Guiding questions) What background or prior knowledge will you expect students to bring
to this topic and build on?) Remember, essential questions are meant to guide the lesson by provoking inquiry.
They should not be answered with a simple yes or no and should have many acceptable answers.

Essential Questions:
How can the coordinate system help you identify the location of shapes?
How do coordinate grids help you organize information?
How will I use technology to keep my audience engaged?
Assessment (What will students do or produce to illustrate their learning? What can students do to generate new
knowledge? How will you assess how students are progressing (formative assessment)? How will you assess
what they produce or do? How will you differentiate products?) You must attach copies of your assessment and/or
rubrics. Include these in your presentation as well.

The students will create a short presentation that will include visuals and graphs that illustrate their
understanding of the lesson. The students presentation will be assessed by using the prezi rubric. The
assessment will be differentiated by allowing the students to pick their visuals and designing their own
graphs. At the end of the lesson, the students will be given a short quiz using kahoot. The quiz will be
comprised of four coordinate plane questions. The students will be scored using the rubric at the end of
the lesson plan.
Resources (How does technology support student learning? What digital tools, and resourcesonline student
tools, research sites, student handouts, tools, tutorials, templates, assessment rubrics, etchelp elucidate or
explain the content or allow students to interact with the content? What previous technology skills should students
have to complete this project?)

Technology can be used to improve teaching and learning to help the students be successful. The
technology that was used in this lesson will help students to present their information to the class. The
students should already know how to look up information on the internet so we did not spend much time
on how to navigate through Google. The students have used these digital tools during their computer
class. They are becoming more aware on how to use prezi, kahoot, and some interactive websites to
practice math problems.

Preparation (What student needs, interests, and prior learning provide a foundation for this lesson? How can
you find out if students have this foundation? What difficulties might students have?)

The students will need to know what a coordinate plane is, how to plot points on a coordinate plane,
and be able to read and label ordered pairs as well. Students will also need to be familiar with using
technology and creating prezis/powerpoints to show what they have learned about a concept. In order
to find out if students have this foundation or not, I would review the concept and reteach or remediate
as needed before students begin to work on creating their own prezi. I would also spend time in the
computer lab showing students how to use prezi so that they will become more comfortable using it
themselves, but since prezi is a more complex program than powerpoint it may take a lot of practice.
The students may need additional help navigating on the internet.
Management Describe the classroom management strategies will you use to manage your students and the use
of digital tools and resources. How and where will your students work? (Small groups, whole group, individuals,
classroom, lab, etc.) What strategies will you use to achieve equitable access to the Internet while completing this
lesson? Describe what technical issues might arise during the Internet lesson and explain how you will resolve or
trouble-shoot them? Please note: Trouble-shooting should occur prior to implementing the lesson as well as
throughout the process. Be sure to indicate how you prepared for problems and work through the issues that
occurred as you implemented and even after the lesson was completed.

The students will be working individually when creating their prezi presentation. The students will work
on their presentation during specials in computer class and during school when time is given to work on
their projects. The students will be monitored by and receive support from the special education teacher,
computer lab teacher, and the paraprofessionals in the classroom. The students are allowed to have
additional time if they do not have internet at home or if their computers are not working.
Instructional Strategies and Learning Activities Describe the research-based instructional strategies you will
use with this lesson. How will your learning environment support these activities? What is your role? What are the
students' roles in the lesson? How can you ensure higher order thinking at the analysis, evaluation, or
creativity levels of Blooms Taxonomy? How can the technology support your teaching? What authentic,
relevant, and meaningful learning activities and tasks will your students complete? How will they build knowledge
and skills? How will students use digital tools and resources to communicate and collaborate with each other
and others? How will you facilitate the collaboration?

The students will be expected to teach the class about coordinate planes, and the audience will listen to
their peers presentation. The digital tools that will be used will get the students to become creative
when creating their presentation to the audience. The students will show what knowledge they know
about the lesson by listening to the prior weeks lesson from the teacher and present it using prezi. The
teacher will show the students what is expected by showing an example presentation of what the teacher
made using prezi. At the end of the lesson, the students will be given feedback from the teacher using
the prezi rubric.
Differentiation (How will you differentiate content and process to accommodate various learning styles and
abilities? How will you help students learn independently and with others? How will you provide extensions and
opportunities for enrichment? What assistive technologies will you need to provide?)

I will allow my students to pick any template from the prezi website. The students will be allowed to be
paired together if they need extra help. Many of the students may need a visual when creating their
project online. They will be able to design their presentation on paper before putting it into prezi. The
students will be allowed to add more than the minimum requirement of slides to their presentation if
they choose. I will give students the option to add other forms of media within the presentation such as
an educational video clip or video of themselves talking about the topic. Also, I can give extra time for
the students to complete each question on kahoot.
Reflection (Will there be a closing event? Will students be asked to reflect upon their work? Will students be
asked to provide feedback on the assignment itself? What will be your process for answering the following
questions?
Did students find the lesson meaningful and worth completing?
In what ways was this lesson effective?
What went well and why?
What did not go well and why?
How would you teach this lesson differently?)

Each student came up one at a time to present their prezi. After every student finishes their presentation I
will sum up coordinate planes. I was excited how quick the students caught on using prezi. The students
learned so much after watching their peers presentations. Many of the students got out of their comfort
zones. The students did really well taking the assessments using kahoot.
The one thing that did not go well was that some of the presenters did not keep the attention of some of
the students. I was proud of the students because they created their presentation using a different
program besides powerpoint. I would teach this lesson differently by going over all of the questions on
kahoot at the end of the assessment. We were rushed for time so we didnt go over the questions.
Closure: Anything else you would like to reflect upon regarding lessons learned and/or your experience with
implementing this lesson. What advice would you give others if they were to implement the lesson? Please
provide a quality reflection on your experience with this lesson and its implementation.

The students did great presenting their presentation. The content was reflected on what we have been
doing in class. I feel like the students learned so much from their peers. They were not afraid to present
their presentations. I would recommend going over the internet tools that are used in this lesson prior
starting on their presentation. I got the opportunity to teach different kids that I normally do not teach.
This was a challenge but I feel like I did a good job.
