Carlson, Jennifer D. "From Gun Politics To Self-Defense Politics: A Feminist Critique Of The
Great Gun Debate." Violence Against Women 20.3 (2014): 369-377. Academic Search
Premier. Web. 8 Mar. 2016.
This article describes the issue of gun control from the viewpoint of feminists and how
women are told to either carry a gun or dont, there is no in-between for women on
the issue. The author describes the idea that society gives us which is a womans only
option for self defense is a gun. The author argues that both pro-gun and anti-gun
viewpoints have benefits to them and that the real argument lies in the bigger picture,
which is the right to self-defense. The author uses the rhetorical strategies of logos and
pathos very well with her use of facts and studies, and experiences or stories to support
those. I do not plan to use this text in my essay because it focuses on an issue that goes
beyond the gun control debate.
Casteen, John. "Ditching The Rubric On Gun Control." Virginia Quarterly Review 80.4 (2004):
210-221. Academic Search Premier. Web. 10 Mar. 2016.
This article analyzes both sides of the gun debate, both pro and anti, and points out the
flaws but also the supporting facts of each argument. The article has a lot of good points
and uses a lot of facts to back up whats being said. I plan on using information from this
article in my essay to be able to implement a good use of logos in how I deliver my
message.
Cooper, Marc. "Gun control is a misfire: What liberals and the NRA both get wrong." The
American Conservative 15.2 (2016): 12+. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 10
Mar. 2016.
This article discusses exactly what the title says, the flaws of both sides of the gun
control debate. The author uses logic and a good use of logos to explain his ideas
and I plan to use some of his information in writing my essay. Since he in fact does
include a lot of facts and then stories behind those facts I plan on using this to
effectively use the rhetorical strategies of both logos and pathos in my essay.
Gale. "Concealed Weapons." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2015.
Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 10 Mar. 2016.
This article discusses the supporting ideas behind a concealed weapons permit,
which is a license to carry a concealed firearm. The author explains the new federal
laws restricting the carry of a concealed weapon in some areas and how that
those that choose to get a permit. I do not plan on using this information in my
essay, I feel that the author is discussing more issues that go beyond the gun
control debate.

Goodwin, Garth. "Place Of Safety." Relational Child & Youth Care Practice 26.1 (2013): 5961. Academic Search Premier. Web. 10 Mar. 2016.
This article discusses the importance of creating a safe and healthy environment
for children in our country. There is a part of the essay that discusses the
importance of not fighting for our right to bare arms, but rather fighting for more
gun education. The author speaks of bringing kids up in an environment that they
are exposed to firearms and also instructed in the proper care and use of those
firearms. I do plan to use this information in my own essay because the author uses
our children and families as a way of emotionally motivating us to agree with what
he says. I feel this can be used effective in the rhetorical strategy of pathos.
Ingraham, Christopher. "Gun control: What works, what doesn't and what remains open for
debate." Washington Post 7 Mar. 2016. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 10
Mar. 2016.
This article discusses the reality of the many studies that support both pro gun and
anti gun ideas. The author explains that the real solution is in the education of
firearm use and altering the current laws which give too much freedom to those
who want to obtain a gun. Although the author direct supports the idea I will be
discussing, I will not be using this information in my essay because it focusses
on the authors opinion rather then actual facts.
Kates Jr., Don B. "Gun Control Versus Gun Prohibition." American Bar Association
Journal 68.9 (1982): 1052. Academic Search Premier. Web. 10 Mar. 2016.
This article, published by the American Bar Association, discusses the need for
strict gun policies but emphasizes that it would be considered irrational to say
that guns directly influence the amount of murders. I plan on using this article as
another source to build a better rhetorical use of logos with the facts that are used
by the author.
Kopel, David B. "Hold Your Fire." Policy Review 63 (1993): 58. Academic Search Premier.
Web. 10 Mar. 2016.
This article discusses the idea that while gun control possibly can lower suicide by gun
rates it doesnt help the overall suicide rate or the gun violence rates. The author uses a
lot of facts that show his respect for the gun control ideas but also explains how they
dont work. I plan to use the information in my essay as a good source for developing
a good use of logos and pathos by using the facts that are used in combination with reallife stories from people who at one point supported banning guns and now have
changed.

Nisbet, Lee. M.D. "Book Notes." Ethics 102.4 (1992): 890. Academic Search Premier. Web. 10
Mar. 2016.
This piece is the summary or opinion of a book that was written on the gun debate.
The author discusses the foolishness of trying to draw a direct connection between
guns in our hands today and the deaths in our newspaper tomorrow. Although the
authors argument supports mine, I dont plan on using this information in my essay
due to the lack of real information instead of personal opinion.
Young, John T., and David Hemenway. "The Polls -- Trends: Guns." Public Opinion
Quarterly 60.4
(1996): 634. Academic Search Premier. Web. 10 Mar. 2016.
This article gives a brief explanation of the gun control debate in America and then
provides information from surveys involving the opinions of Americans on different
suggested methods of gun control or questions regarding the ownership of private
firearms. Although the information is interesting, I do not plan using it in my essay
because it tends to focus on common opinion rather then actually participating in
the gun control argument.
