5E Lesson Plan

Teacher: Brittany Williams

Date: April 28, 2016
Subject Area/course/grade level: Technology Education and Language
Arts / 4th Grade
Materials: Class set of iPads or computers
Standards:
I. Using technology tools to organize information
II. Explain major differences among American Holidays
III. Compare and Contrast Holidays
IV. Use description and story text to develop experiences and events
V. Conduct group projects that build knowledge
Objective: Learn about traditional holidays through utilizing technology
Differentiation Strategies:
I. I will use project-based learning in order to allow my students to go on
their own pace and help them push themselves at their own level.
II. I differentiate by using visual, audio, tactile components in my lessons

ENGAGEMENT:
In order to catch my students attention, I will present to them a presentation
about holidays using VoiceThread. With VoiceThread, I will upload pictures
that represent several American holidays Christmas, Thanksgiving,
Halloween, Independence Day, Valentines Day, New Years Day, etc. Each
thread will have a footnote about the holiday. This presentation is an activity
that utilizes technology to give students a promo of what I will be teaching
on. I will also be showing a 6-minute YouTube video on all the American
holidays. After watching the video, we will have a discussion on which
holidays the students did not know much about and which holidays they
celebrate with their family.

COLLABORATION:
In order for my students to experience hands-on learning, they will be using
Padlet.com and Bubbl.us to discuss American holidays. I will give each of my
students an iPad. If there are not enough iPads, we will go to an open
computer lab. I will give my students a link to my I love Holidays Padlet.
When everyone has reached the Padlet, they will be able to express to the
entire class what their favorite holiday is and why it is their favorite holiday.
Padlet.com allows the entire class to write on one board and every students
is able to see what the students have written. This is a fun, hands-on, and
collaborative way to discuss their learning with others. I will also be using
Bubbl.us to express adjectives that go along with different American
holidays. I will hook my computer up to the projector in order for the entire
class to see the screen. Each student will be allowed to come up in front of
the class and create a bubble. They will then type the name of a holiday and
write adjectives that go along with the holiday. These are two outstanding
hands-on activities that utilize technology in the classroom.

EXPLANATION:
In order for my students to better understand the content, I will be creating a
Prezi. With Prezi, I will be discussing American Holidays and how they began.
Through Prezi, my students will have knowledge about American Holidays,
why we celebrate these certain holidays, and how they began.
