CrossFit is a form of training that targets

multiple components of fitness and has
emerged as a popular and effective lifetime
physical activity choice for adults Worldwide

This is very true because since I began

CrossFit five years ago there has been a
major rise in participation of the sport. Many
people join CrossFit gyms daily just in our
area

All Grade 10 students were eligible to

participate unless they had a medical
condition preventing assessment or
participation in the programme

I wish my high school had this program when

I was going through it. I would have loved to
compete with everybody from my high school.

utilized the outdoor facilities and basic

equipment available at the participating
school (e.g. school bags, medicine balls,
broom sticks, basketball court)

This goes to show that CrossFit can be done

anywhere with anything. It is meant to
challenge what you know about working out.
It is never the same. It is constantly varied
high intensity functional movement

A typical session included a dynamic warm- This is what a typical CrossFit workout would
up (10 min), a technique-based skill session be structured as for people who are involved
(10 min), a Workout of the Day (WOD = 10 in group classes.
20 min), a stretching session (510 min) and
time allocated for organization, transition
and changing into physical education
uniform (10 min)
The CrossFit Teens programme led to
significant improvements in all three
measures of body composition for the
pooled data.

Most people get hooked on CrossFit from the

quick results in such a short amount of time. It
only took eight weeks for most participants to
show significant improvement on their overall
body composition

Our results also indicate that adolescent

girls can significantly improve their
cardiorespiratory fitness through a school-

CrossFit is not only for guys who want to be

in crazy shape or are obsessed with working
out. CrossFit is for everybody who wants to

based programme

make significant gains in overall well being

The focus on improving resistance training

skill competency, although important for
injury prevention and long term exercise
adoption, may have reduced muscular
fitness gains.

A major goal of any CrossFit coach is to keep

their participants safe. If that means taking
away the weight and having the participant
move with only body weight they will do that
until they show proper form and technique in
the desired movement patterns. Safety is a
huge concern of gyms. It might not show you
the results you are looking for in a short time
but it will allow you to continue the sport for
longer than if you got injured.

this is the first study to evaluate a

CrossFit programme designed specifically
for adolescents

The data collected from this study can be

another great tool law makers can and should
use to show adolescents the importance of
exercise and staying physically active.
Sedentary lifestyles are hurting this country
significantly.

By providing adolescents with opportunities

to participate in engaging, well-designed
and evidence-based high intensity fitness
programmes that are available in the
community and to build their skill
competence to participate in such
programmes within the school setting the
link between community and school health
promotion may strengthen

The opportunity for children to be physically

active is not always an option. By having the
CrossFit coaches go to school and get the
children energized to be active it could
promote overall more healthy community
along with a decrease in teenage crimes. The
longer kids are being active the less time they
have to get into trouble.

The CrossFit Teens programme has

demonstrated success in improving healthrelated fitness outcomes in adolescent girls
and boys suggesting that incorporating
CrossFit training into the physical
education curriculum in secondary schools
may be a safe, effective, and appealing
approach to promote physical fitness in
adolescents

This again goes to show that CrossFit can be

a great tool for getting kids active and
wanting to be physically fit. The more kids
who stay active the better their health will be
in the long run. Instilling the importance of
physical activity at a young age for kids is
necessary for our countries overall wellbeing
to increase.

However, the varied adaptations stimulated

in boys and girls participating in the
programme imply that different approaches
may be needed for boys and girls if targeting
identical outcomes in the future

There is many ways to change a CrossFit

workout to specify it for one person. It can be
hard with limited resources in a school
setting.
