Final Reflection
1. Choose a song or musical composition that communicates
your experience with writing and UWRT 1102. Consider
including a video of the song. Explain your choice.
I was a little perturbed by this prompt something that related to my college
writing class Um, the rap and ambient trancey music youll generally find
me listening to didnt seem to correspond with me trying to adapt and mold
to structured writing for academic purposes. But I had to find a song so I
begun to think about my feelings towards academic writing and how it had
changed drastically since I began writing 5 paragraph essays. I now feel like I
can process my hectic thoughts and ideas on paper and that it is at least
semi-readable to my peers and teachers. So I decided on the ASAP Ferg song
called New Level to represent my newfound confidence or the fact that my
writing is on a new level .
2. If you were to teach this class, what ideas would you
emphasis?
I think since it is the second class of basic college writing, it should revolve
around fluidity and flow of the information you are presenting to an
audience of all sorts. We are used to writing for teachers, an authority figure,
and asked to convey knowledge very properly throughout highschool.
There was an easy format you could use to tell your teachers about the civil

war or any academic subject really. Now when asked to create a scholarly
portfolio with many more pieces of individual work included in it, its hard to
make everything link up perfectly and achieve a professional balance of facts
and personal input. So the emphasis I would place on the class is
understanding the whole portfolio and how each necessary piece is relevant
to creating their own masterpiece of academic work. Creativity is allowed,
generally, but not to certain extents because there has to be a
structural/organized feel to the piece/outcome.
3. Explain how your understanding of rhetorical knowledge
has changed over the course of the semester using at least
three examples from your writing. Ex. Did you shift an
assignment to better fit a particular genre like a proposal?
My understanding of rhetorical knowledge has grown from a weak
understanding to a more complex notion of the effects of learning and how to
compose my own thoughts after doing so.
4. Explain how your critical reading has improved during the
semester. Ex. In what ways did you read across texts for
connections and patterns in your inquiry?
I was able to make a spiderweb of points to explain rather than a linear
paper( like a big research paper for example) which you have to read from
start to finish with a logical order With this online portfolio, each piece
incorporated didnt specifically need to lead to another, but instead just
added support and another point of view to the multiple crucial parts. I liked
the creativity allowed throughout the semester, but I definitely see why it
would give people problems with choosing something well-rounded or vast
enough, but equally specific...So finding balance by critical reading is a must.

5. Discuss your composing processes. Ex. Did you conduct

additional research while revising or after consulting a
colleague? Provide at least three examples to support your
assertion.
While being a master of my topic in my mind, I was still very aware that I
needed to expand my knowledge further by having peers and the teacher
read over my drafts. After getting feedback from colleagues, I would return to
the writing desk and revise/chop/add content. After turning in a confusing
proposal that was exploring too many different points of art, I learned that
the composition was too scattered and organization needed to be better
instilled in my academic writings.
6. Provide at least three examples of your knowledge of
conventions Ex. sentence level changes, MLA citations.
Over the semester, I have practiced with the formal rules of writing I am not
so fond about. I made sure to expect the readers thoughts and possible
reactions to appropriately. Before this class, I wrote solely for the teacher,
not for other students. Now I anticipate the needs of the masses, not just one
person who grades my work.
7. Critical Reflection: A) Explain the importance of reflection
in learning processes. B) Explain what you think is important in
providing commentary on others work and receiving
commentary on your own. C) Provide at least three examples
of your nuanced use of commentary in your writing projects.
A.. The importance of reflection in critical writing and reading is essential
to build on information efficiently to understand and be able to convey to
others. Without reflection, you can not construct valid points with your
influence and thought process. Reflection is by far the best thing you can do
without new material to learn.

B It is annoying to peer edit almost every class but I do see the point of
it. By being forced to share opinions and personal style with others, it is
mutual benefit for both sides. The reader is absorbing information as well as
trying to understand from a formal point of view and can tell the writer about
the little mistakes made or ask about another form of explaining the
knowledge. The writer can bounce off all these corrections and brainstorm
from someone elses base opinion and make the piece of writing better
because of highlighted mistakes and style shifts. Peer editing is proofing the
best way you can, with another set of eyes. It allows for more progress than
proofing alone. So yay I guess!
