Status of Gay Rights in Canada

Gay Rights has always been a big issue all over the world. Traditionally,
marriage is seen as being between a man and a woman, but that is slowly
changing as same-sex marriage is being recognized. The world is becoming
more modern, and is leaning away from traditional. Same-sex couples are
beginning to have the same benefits as heterosexual couples. On May 21,
2012, the NAACP named same-sex marriage "one of the key civil rights
struggles of our time." As of 2015, 23 countries have legalized same-sex
marriage. In 2001, the Netherlands became the first country to legalize
same-sex marriage. People are also beginning to see that same-sex couples
are lasting longer than heterosexual couples.
On December 9, 2004, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the
marriage of same-sex couples is constitutional, that the federal government
has the sole authority to amend the definition of marriage, and the Charter's
protection of freedom of religion grants religious institutions the right to
refuse to perform the marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples. On July 20,
2005, Canada became the fourth country in the world, and the first country
outside Europe, to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide with the
enactment of the Civil Marriage Act. It was passed by the House of Commons
in July 28, 2005. Before it was passed more than 3,000 couples had already
been married. Canada believes that everyone deserves someone to be with
for the rest of their life gay or not. We believe that if couples can get
married why cant same sex couple cant? Why cant they have the same
right as opposite couples do? Like Every individual is equal before and under
the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law
without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on
race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, sex, age or mental or physical
disability. Saying we all should have equal rights gay or not.
To solve the issue Canada believes that same-sex marriage should be
allowed all over the world. They are humans and although some people do
not agree, they need to accept that the world is changing. They are allowed
to have a choice just like everyone else. You dont have to agree with it, but
they should be able to make a decision themselves. The only solution is to let
them win, because they will not give up. They will fight for their right until
the end. Also with the solution of accepting them, the number of suicides are

most likely to decrease. By letting them be free to be who they are, we are
making our world more peaceful.
