Ask students what it means to persuade someone
Read out different scenarios to the students and ask then to agree or disagree. There will be agree/disagree signs
on either side of the room.
Ask students to convince me why they agree/disagree

1. Discuss that students have prior knowledge on persuasive writing
2. I was wondering if it is important to have bike education in school, why not ask 3B.
3. You are going to write me a letter convincing me if it is or isnt important to learn bike education at
school.
4. Ask students to identify what they need in a persuasive writing piece
5. Show students a copy on the board of the Oreo cookie planner and explain it
6. Explain that student can use this planner to help identify reasons to convince someone why it is
important to learn about bike safety?

Consolidation, practice, extension

1. Students are to use their Oreo planner to plan their persuasive letter why is it important to learn about
bike safety.
2. Students are to include emotive language
3. Students are to ensure they have their opinion, three convincing arguments for this opinion and their
conclusion.
4. Students can begin to write letter if plan is complete
