U27 LO1: Issues relating to your documentary

Opinion and bias: A thought or belief on someone or something. Bias meaning that you lean more towards
one side of an argument. For example being biased towards Ted Cruz when in a debate with him and Donald
Trump.
Why is it important? It is important because if you are one sided in your documentary about one thing it
becomes less factual. It will be deemed un-suitable for showing if you are too biased towards one side in a
documentary based on opinions. I will avoid this by exploring each side of the argument against Esports
equally taking different points in to effect to help in my final judgement.

Accuracy: The condition or quality of being true, correct, or exact; freedom from error or
defect; precision or exactness; correctness.
Why is it important? It is always important to be factually correct in a documentary otherwise
it cannot be classed as a documentary. If you are not accurate and truthful then people wont
show your documentary. I will make sure all the information I use will be referenced and
talked about in detail to back it up.

Balance and impartiality: Not prejudiced towards or against any particular side or party; fair;
unbiased

Objectivity and subjectivity: Being able to show something without influence from other
factors.
Why is it important? It is important because since I am a gamer, people would think that I
will be biased towards calling it a sport. However I have to cancel that out and be neutral in
the argument.

Representation: Is how someone is shown in the documentary.

Why is it important? It is important to eliminate stereotypes as it could cloud a judgement, for example
gamers are shown to be basement dwellers who dont go out of have an active lifestyle. I need to try and
eliminate this judgement and not cloud peoples judgement.

Access and privacy: Freedom from damaging publicity, public scrutiny, secret surveillance, or
unauthorized disclosure of ones personal data or information, as by a government,
corporation, or individual

Why is it important? I dont have to worry about this because everyone I need to interview is
over 17. But it is important because it can lead to complications and sanctions against you.

Contract with viewer: The reason for your documentary, for example to teach/inform/entertain.
Why is it important? Because it is key to define what your documentaries purpose is, It will
be clear what my purpose is, because I will say that the purpose of this is too inform rather
than argue about it.
