VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
Through my volunteer experiences I was able to improve my emerging language

consumers in a variety of settings, networking, and learned about many new
cultures while also further developing my understanding of Deaf culture.

The African American Experience: A Perspective on Language, Culture,

Workshop addressed many topics of race, language (ASL & English), norms, culture,
myths, communication, power and privilege, conflict, history, and social standards within
the African American & Black Deaf and hearing communities.

Interpreting Muslim/Islamic Events March 2016, ASL Blend, presented


by Fardowsa Alli & Betsy Carter

Discussed cultural norms and expectations for interpreting at Muslim hosted and or
Islamic events while also teaching essential signs and concepts for this culture.

Various professional workshops on topics about transgender, mentoring,


theater interpreting, and concert interpreting
