The introduction of the second generation modular infotainment matrix (MIB) satisfies the growing demands of
customers.
Compared with that of the predecessor, the performance of the modular infotainment matrix is much higher in
order to offer a more comprehensive infotainment package.
The latest generation of Discover Pro, with new navigation functions among its features, is presented in the new
Passat. This means, for example, that Discover Pro can display maps from Google Earth and
Google Street View.

Rubber band function
The "rubber band" function makes it possible to
change the active route without text or voice input for
intermediate destinations.
In this case, the displayed route can be touched, fixed
and moved with the finger. A waypoint is added to
the newly defined route by the navigation system. This
waypoint can also be moved as required. The new
additional waypoint is included in the route list.

Media interfaces
The Passat 2015 can be equipped with three different types of media interface:

USB connection
USB and AUX-IN connection
Multiple USB connection and AUX-IN connection

The USB connection can be ordered with Apple compatibility. This means no specific adapter cable is required, as
the Apple authentication chip is integrated into the USB connection. The original telephone adapter cable can be
used for connectivity.

USB connection
The Composition Touch and Composition Colour have
the AUX-IN connection integrated into the device as
standard. The USB connection can be ordered as an
option and is installed in the storage compartment of
the centre armrest.

The Basic mobile telephone interface
The Basic preparation for mobile telephone enables communication via Bluetooth between the mobile telephone
and control unit J764 or radio R. The following Bluetooth protocols or profiles are supported by this configuration:

The mobile telephone that is paired first or the mobile telephone first recognised after the terminal 15 ON cycle is
marked as prioritised. It is shown in the list of maximum two active mobile telephones in the menu of the radio
navigation system.
associated:
If a mobile telephone is already paired or has already been detected in the active driving cycle, the next mobile
telephone is marked as associated. It is shown in the menu list of the radio navigation system as the second in
succession.
For incoming and outgoing calls, both mobile telephones (prioritised and associated) can be used in the same way.
The mobile telephone initiated first is selected.

The Comfort mobile telephone interface

The Comfort mobile telephone interface enables the best possible transmission and reception through connection
to the vehicle's external aerial. Pairing takes place inductively and offers the means of connecting a mobile
telephone without physical connector to the vehicle's aerial system.
The Comfort mobile telephone interface can be combined as an option with Composition Media, Discover Media
and Discover Pro. It features an additional, data-enabled USB connection. The Comfort mobile telephone
interface consists of the following main components:

With the telephone module and the SIM card slot it is possible to provide the functionality of a fixed installation
phone when the SIM card is inserted. An inserted SIM card has priority over the wireless Bluetooth pairing.
New features of generation 2.0:
If a pure data connection is selected for the inserted SIM card, the Bluetooth profiles are still available for the
mobile telephone pairing process.
The Premium mobile telephone interface cannot only be used as a client with paired mobile telephones that
have a data connection, but it can also make this access (WLAN hotspot) available to other clients.
The telephone module in control unit J794 with a connection to the vehicle's external aerial is designed to work in
GSM and UMTS networks.

Only one mobile telephone that supports the

Bluetooth data transfer protocol rSAP can be paired
to the operating and display unit of the MIB (with
Premium mobile telephone interface). All mobile
radio connections of the mobile telephone are
deactivated in the process. It serves as a SIM card
reader and SIM data supplier.
The mobile radio connection is made using the control
unit 1 for information electronics J794.
The radio's telephone module itself uses the SIM card
data in the mobile radio network. Only the Bluetooth
connection remains active in order to detect whether
the telephone is still within range.

The car stick

The car stick is a USB stick with an integrated modem
that can only be used in the vehicle. The car stick is
also referred to as a UMTS stick. After inserting a
SIM card, the stick can be fitted in a vacant USB
socket in the vehicle. Only after entering the
SIM card PIN is a connection to the internet made.
Data transfer between the car stick and the operating
and display unit of the MIB is via the USB interface.

The Infotainment system can also come with the sound package DYNAUDIO Confidence in connection with the
devices Composition Media, Discover Media and Discover Pro. With this sound package, the digital sound
package control unit J525 provides 700 watts of power to supply 8 loudspeakers, a dual coil bass loudspeaker
(subwoofer) and a centre loudspeaker. By using a centre loudspeaker and the loudspeakers for the mid-tone
frequency range, which are new additions, a perfectly balanced sound is created for the interior of the Passat. The
centre loudspeaker is integrated into the middle of the upper part of the dash panel. The digital sound package
control unit J525 is a 16-channel amplifier, of which 13 of the channels are actively used.

interest, the respective files are loaded in the

information window, marked by an i, which

user must start downloading the data in the vehicle
via the Download button in the Car-Net menu.

Car-Net
The MirrorLink function
With this function, customers have the option of mirroring the screen of their smartphone on the display of the
infotainment system. Using the MirrorLink connection, the smartphone can also be controlled via the touchscreen
of the infotainment system. The connection is made using the USB data cable of the smartphone.
In the Passat, the MirrorLink standard V.1.1 is used. This makes it possible to display certified apps even when the
vehicle is in motion.

A list of compatible smartphones can be found on the Volkswagen homepage under the heading Technology, in
the chapter Infotainment. MirrorLink is only supported by android smartphones.

Prerequisite
The prerequisite to use the function is a MirrorLink-enabled smartphone with an active internet connection and
MirrorLink activated in the vehicle. If the function is not enabled as the user chose not to select the option when
the vehicle was ordered, it can be retro-fitted with software as a product (SwaP). To use MirrorLink, at least
Composition Media must be installed.
After creating a connection between the smartphone and infotainment system using the USB data cable,
certification of the hardware is performed first. This involves checking the infotainment system to determine whether
the telephone supports MirrorLink. If this is the case, the MirrorLink connection is made and the smartphone
display is mirrored on the screen of the infotainment system. If the user launches an app, a check is carried out via
the internet connection as to whether this app is MirrorLink-enabled. The relevant certificate is downloaded if the
result is positive. The smartphone and radio navigation system now compare the certificate information. If the
certificate is confirmed, the app can be shown on the screen of the radio navigationolksystem

Shared Audio

In this app, task and call lists can be created. These can be managed as and
when the traffic situation permits.

Sound Journey

The app creates a soundtrack of the journey. Three genres can be selected
from. The music is influenced depending on the acceleration, braking and

Preparation for Media Control
The physical mounting consists of a bracket on the back of the driver and front passenger seats. A retainer from the
Volkswagen accessories programme is inserted into this bracket. It is then possible to attach the Volkswagen iPad
adapter or the portable Volkswagen DVD player to the fitted retainer. Preparation for Media Control offers a 12V
power supply for adapters and DVD players.
