Set Induction: Today we are trying to solve the answer

Presentation of New Material/Directions: Here is how

the game works. There will be five groups, each
group will be competing against each other to
answer the question. Each team is going to start out
with a multiplication sheet that has four
multiplication problems listed. Once you have
solved the first sheet a team member will come up
to the front of the classroom and collect their next
multiplication problem sheet and a letter of our
mystery answer. After you solve the second
multiplication set another teammate will turn in that
sheet grab the next set and grab a letter and so on.
Eventually the letters will spell out the word to tell
us the answer to our question. The first team to
finish all of their multiplication sheets and put

Notes:

together the answer to the question wins. To signal

that your team is done you must shout mystery
solved. If answer is right then it is game over. I
encourage that every teammate helps figure out the
math problems as some start to get challenging as
the activity goes on. Some important safety
reminders, team members should walk down the
steps and to be aware of their surroundings.
Transition: When the first team has solved their riddle
they should shout mystery solved! to tell other teams
that the activity is over
Activity: Groups will be scattered around the
classroom, multiplication sets and letters for the answer
will be at the front table of the room. On the front table I
will put the group number so that the group knows
where to pick up their multiplication set and letter from.
Possible Modifications: To make it harder I could give
teams harder math problems.
Lesson Review: So what was the answer to the
riddle? Then I will talk about why it is important to
work as a team, then tell them that we will be doing
an activity similar to this one every Friday.
