in position to under and behind the
ball)
3. Eyes on target (the ball)
4. Bend and extend (bend knees in
preparation; extend legs and arms on
contact)
5. Elbows locked and straight

arm prior to contact.

2. Shoulder and hip rotation.
3. Wrist action (wrist snap forward
during contact with ball, substitution
word, Cobra).
4. Follow through
Explain to students that overhand
serve and spiking is relatively the
same form for the upper body.
However, it is different in the lower
body because jumping will be
involved.
*The physical educator will
demonstrate a spike in real time.
Have the students stand in a line
along the back court line of the
volleyball court. Each student will
take one turn to spike the ball. They
will bring a ball and give it to the
physical educator who will be
standing in the setter spot (next to the
net in the middle). The physical
educator will set/toss the ball up high
enough so the students can make an
approach and spike it. (Give a second
try if the ball is set/toss poorly). Once
a student hit the ball, they will have to
pick their ball and sit along the side of
the volleyball court. Continue down
the line until all students have gone at
least once.
*Bring class together to go over rules

Explain rules:
- Rotation/clockwise
- Boundaries
- Rally scoring
- 3 hit maximum
*Talk about positive encouragement.

Jump
1. Arms swing
back as knee
bends
2. Arms swing
forward and up as
knee extends
(spring up)

(C) Not to touch/talk to other

students.

*Keep hands to oneself

and avoid
pushing/shoving.

*Keep your eyes

on the ball.
*Jump and spike
the ball.

(C) Try to hit the ball into of the
