Culminating Student Outcomes: Student Graduation Competencies
1.Technology- By the end of twelfth grade a student should be able to
successfully operate technology-based tools. Use technology to locate,
select, and manage information. Use technology to explore ideas, solve problems, and
derive meaning. Use technology to express ideas and exchange information. Use
technology responsibly and understand its impact on individuals and society. Recognize
the implications of emerging technologies.
2. Reading- By the end of high school students should be able to locate and interpret
minor or subtly stated details in complex passages. Locate important details in highly
complex passages. Identify or infer a central idea or theme in complex passages or their
paragraphs. Summarize key supporting ideas and details in highly complex passages.
Order sequences of events in complex passages. Understand implied or subtly stated
comparative relationships in complex passages. Analyze how the choice of a specific
word or phrase shapes meaning or tone in passages when the effect is subtle or complex.
Analyze the overall structure of highly complex passages and identify or infer a purpose
in complex passages and how that purpose shapes content and style.
3. Math- By the end of high school students should be able to make sense of problems
and persevere in solving them, reason abstractly and quantitatively, construct viable
arguments and critique the reasoning of others, model with mathematics, use appropriate
tools strategically, attend to precision, look for and make use of structure, and look for
and express regularity in repeated reasoning. These are basic algebra skills necessary for
most trades and post secondary education.
4. Art- By the end of twelfth grade students will develop a strong visual arts

vocabulary. Continue to apply and develop the principles of pattern,

rhythm, proportion, balance, unity, emphasis, line, shape, form, color,
texture, space and value. Demonstrate control of art techniques that add
craftsmanship to their personal statement. Demonstrate and ability to design
using elements and principles of design in creative ways. Acquire artistic
skills to express and communicate responses to experiences. Recognize the
importance of personal experiences and respect the originality in their own
visual expressions and in the artwork of others. By the end of high school
students will have a complete integrated art portfolio demonstrating their
individual style, art process, and personal
vision.
5. Writing- By the end of high school students should be able to write
arguments focused on specific content. They should be able to introduce precise,
knowledgeable claim(s), establish the significance of the claim(s), distinguish the
claim(s) from alternate or opposing claims, and create an organization that logically
sequences the claim(s), counterclaims, reasons, and evidence. Use words, phrases, and
clauses as well as varied syntax to link the major sections of the text, create cohesion, and
clarify the relationships between claim(s) and reasons, between reasons and evidence,
and between claim(s) and counterclaims. Establish and maintain a formal style and
objective tone while attending to the norms and conventions of the discipline in which
they are writing. Provide a concluding statement or section that follows from or supports
the argument presented.

Culminating Student Outcomes: Student Middle School Competencies

1.Technology- By the end of eighth grade students will be able to use local and
worldwide networks, manage and maintain technology tools, diagnose and solve common
technology problems. Identify and locate complicated information using technology.
Choose sources of information from a variety of media and select relevant information by
applying accepted research methods. Use technology to observe, analyze, interpret, and

draw conclusions. Create new knowledge by evaluating, combining, or extending

information using multiple technologies. Convey ideas to a variety of audiences by
successfully using publishing, multi-media, and communication tools. Use
communications technology to exchange ideas and information.
2. Reading- By the end of grade 8, students should be able to Locate important details in
somewhat challenging passages. Draw logical conclusions in somewhat challenging
passages. Draw simple logical conclusions in more challenging passages. Infer a central
idea in straightforward paragraphs in somewhat challenging literary narratives. Order
simple sequences of events in somewhat challenging literary narratives. Analyze how the
choice of a specific word or phrase shapes meaning or tone in somewhat challenging
passages. Analyze the overall structure of somewhat challenging passages. Identify a
clear purpose of somewhat challenging passages and how that purpose shapes content
and style. Understand point of view in somewhat challenging passages.
3. Math- In grade 8, instructional time should focus on three critical areas: (1)
formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an
association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations and
systems of linear equations; (2) grasping the concept of a function and using functions to
describe quantitative relationships; (3) analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and
figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying
the Pythagorean Theorem. If students have a strong understanding of these concepts they
will be prepared for algebra.
4. Art- By the end of 8th grade students will be able to demonstrate
purposeful use of elements and principals in creating artworks. They
will refine their artistic skills and self-discipline through practice and
revision. They will skillfully use new and traditional materials, tools, and
techniques, and processes. They will expand creativity and imagination
necessary for innovative thinking, and problem solving. The will develop an
integrated body of artwork that expresses personal vision.

5. Writing- By the end of 8th grade students should be able to write

arguments focused on specific content. Introduce claim(s) about a topic or issue,
acknowledge and distinguish the claim(s) from alternate or opposing claims, and organize
the reasons and evidence logically. Support claim(s) with logical reasoning and relevant,
accurate data and evidence that demonstrate an understanding of the topic or text, using
credible sources. Use words, phrases, and clauses to create cohesion and clarify the
relationships among claim(s), counterclaims, reasons, and evidence. Provide a concluding
statement or section that follows from and supports the argument presented.

Culminating Student Outcomes: Student Elementary School

Competencies
1.Technology-By the end of fifth grade students will be able to use a
computer to enter and retrieve basic information. Use technological tools for learning,
communications, and productivity. Students will be able to type at forty words per
minute. Create power point presentations. Use basic writing, retrieving, revising, and
publishing skills. Discriminate between responsible and irresponsible uses of technology.
Respect others rights of privacy in electronic environments.
2. Reading-By the end of 5th grade students should be able to Locate basic facts (e.g.,
names, dates, events) clearly stated in a passage. Draw simple logical conclusions about
the main characters in somewhat challenging literary narratives. Identify the topic of
passages and distinguish the topic from the central idea or theme. Determine when (e.g.,
first, last, before, after) an event occurs in somewhat challenging passages. Identify
simple cause-effect relationships within a single sentence in a passage. Understand the
implication of a familiar word or phrase and of simple descriptive language. Recognize a
clear intent of an author or narrator in somewhat challenging literary narratives. Analyze
how one or more sentences in passages offer reasons for or support a claim when the
relationship is clearly indicated. Make simple comparisons between two passages.

3. Math-In Grade 5, instructional time should focus on three critical areas: (1) developing
fluency with addition and subtraction of fractions, and developing understanding of the
multiplication of fractions and of division of fractions in limited cases (unit fractions
divided by whole numbers and whole numbers divided by unit fractions); (2) extending
division to 2-digit divisors, integrating decimal fractions into the place value system and
developing understanding of operations with decimals to hundredths, and developing
fluency with whole number and decimal operations; and (3) developing understanding of
volume. If students have a strong grasp of these concepts they will be prepared for the
concepts in middle school math.
4. Art-By the end of 5th grade students should be able to complete quick
sketches and extended drawings from observation, nature, memory,
imagination, still life, and curriculum themes. Explore and practice contour
line. Explore values in drawing with different shading techniques. Use
examples of positive and negative space in drawings. Draw from still life
and abstract it and explore portrait and human body proportions.
5. Writing- By the end of 5th grade students should be able to write opinion pieces on
topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information. Introduce a topic
or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which ideas are
logically grouped to support the writer's purpose. Provide logically ordered reasons that
are supported by facts and details. Students should be able to link opinion and reasons
using words, phrases, and clauses. Provide a concluding statement or section related to
the opinion presented.

Evidence of satisfactory completion of outcomes
