BACKGROUND: In the 41** DMG meeting, a decision was taken to convert plain suspension bearing locomotives to roller suspension type to render tem fit for 30 day’ schedule. Conversion of Magnet Frames of TM-165M/ 4906 to 4907 type has been successfully undertaken by DMW/Patiala. All new ALCO locomotives manufactured at DLW as well as all rebuilt locomotives are being turned out with Roller suspension bearings. This is also ‘one of the basic requirements for implementing the ‘30 day’ trip schedule. OBJECT: The object of this Modification Sheet is to lay down guide lines for this conversion of plain bearing stock to roller bearing suspension stock. DETAILS OF STUDY/ EXPERIMENTATION DONE: This of conversion has been studied out at DMV, Patiala. During rebuilding all the locomotives are being converted into roller bearing stock by either modifying the available traction motor magnet frames to 4907 type or by procuring new magnet frames. This conversion will prima-facie require change in Axle, Traction motor magnet frame and procurement of suspension tube and roller bearings. In this regard letter no. SD.Genl.Nodal, dated 28/30.01.2009, has been issued to all concemed units. APPLICATION TO CLASS OF LOCOMOTIVES: All Alco design of locomotives fitted with TM165IM/TM4306 with plain suspension bearings.
