Hand Washing Activity

InTASC Standard #7 Planning for Instruction


The teacher plans instruction that supports every student
in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon
knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary
skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and
the community context.
Brief Description: In this assignment, we were tasked to
complete a Health Lesson Plan. We were required to research
National and State Health Education Standards, prepare the
lesson plan and present the lesson to our class.

Rationale: To document my understanding of INTASC Standard


#7: Planning for Instruction, I have selected to include my
Health Lesson Plan ecause I was required to create and
incorporate multiple teaching strategies to best present a health
lesson to my class. After completing the lesson, I conducted a
self-reflection that allowed me to better understand my
strengths and weaknesses in curriculum and content area.

steps presented to properly wash hands in
sequential order with 100% accuracy at the

of the lesson

Activity
Song Lyrics (sang to tune of Row Your Boat):
Wash wash wash your hands
Get them nice and clean
Wash the top and the bottom
And the fingers in between

Assessment
Students will individually wash their hands at
the classroom sink as the teacher observes
Students will complete worksheet as informal
assessment

Accommodation/Safety Concerns
Step-stool will be made available for
students to use in order to reach the sink
comfortably

Brief Description: In this assignment, we were asked to complete a


Physical Health Lesson Plan. We were required to research National and
State Physical Education Standards, prepare the lesson plan, and present
the lesson to our class.
Rationale: To document my understanding of INTASC Standard #7:
Planning for Instruction, I have chosen to incorporate my Physical
Education Lesson Plan because I was asked to develop multiple teaching
strategies to display a physical education lesson to my class. After
presenting the lesson to the class, I composed a self-reflection allowing
me to acknowledge what I should continue doing or change for next time.

Students will be able to perform physical tasks
when prompted by the teacher. (cowbell)
Students will be able to work on team building
as they practice these tasks in groups.
Students will know how to take turns.
More than of the class will be able to
participate in these activities with nearly 100%
accuracy.

Preparation
Explain in advance the signal in which the students must

wait to see/hear before beginning the activity. (cowbell)


Demonstrate each task prior to the students performing

them.

Let the students know they are to lightly tap the next

person in their lines hand once they return back from


doing the activity. They go to the end of the line and sit
until their team is finished.

Students will be put into lines 5 lines of 4 students
on one side of the gym.

Crap Walk
Jumping
Running

Activity Assessment
Individual students from each line will participate in the
instructed task. The teacher will observe each students
capability by documenting it on a chart.

Accommodations
Alternative = non-loco motor skills
Asthma
Physical issue not allowing

Safety Concerns
Tripping/falling
Students may collide into each other if

not paying attention when returning


back to their relay line.
