Do all lives matter, or just Black Lives?
All Lives Matter #BLM
In this journal post, it started off by stating how a
womens house had been broken into. She called the
police and offering her address, and the police
responded whoa all houses matter. Its the same
error people who respond to Black Lives Matter
with All Lives Matter are making. Its not that what
theyre saying isnt true. Its just that its unhelpful.
The real problems the movement is trying to address
are being ignored. All Lives Matter is useless. It is
destructive. It is hurtful, and we need to stop saying
it. Black children make up 18% of Americas
preschool population, but represent nearly half of all
out-of-school suspensions. This treatment continues
into the court systems, where black children are 18
times more liked to be tried as adults. It also
extends to the job market, in which white college
graduates are twice as likely to land a job as black
college graduates. In the justice system, black people
are given 20 percent longer sentences than white
people for the SAME crimes. Those who suggest that
black people are imagining racism arent just
devaluing someone elses experience; theyre
ignoring the plain fact.
So when you hear the words Black Lives Matter,
done be so quick to assume its a judgment about
white lives. Instead, see Black Lives Matter for
what it is: a rallying cry to make a difference and take
down the unjust status quo that holds racial equality
at bay in America.

Police Brutality, African Americans

The movement want to end police brutality and
discrimination in mostly black neighborhoods.
However, the movement is not getting the results it
wants from lawmakers. One says,
We have heard that black lives matter. Well, cops
lives matter too. So why dont we just drop that
qualifier and say all lives matter? However, many
Black Lives Matter supporters take issue with that
sentiment.
When we say black lives matter, we are not saying
no one else matters. We are saying right now we need
us [black people] to keep surviving to help you guys
[non-blacks] understand what we are trying to day

Is there an American Dream for Black Children?
American Dream, African Americans
In this article is a break down why this idea for Black
children is becoming less and less realistic. Racial
segregations explain how its easy for the black
middle class to slip back into poverty. A recent census
data show that on average, black and Hispanic
households live in neighborhoods with more than one
hand a half times the poverty rate of neighborhoods
where the average non-Hispanic white lives. In short,
meaning that Neighborhood poverty alone accounts
for a greater portion of the black- white downward
mobility gap. Black children are more likely to grow
up inn high poverty disadvantage neighborhoods,
which make upward mobility difficult. As African
Americans we then run into the Segregated
employment opportunities, meaning we can be just as
qualified, if not more, and because of the color of our
skin not be offered the job. Lastly, this article then
talks about the education system, stating that African
American are trapped in underfunded schools. Which
being in an underfunded school you will not get the
education that perhaps a white will get in a fully
funded school, which then risks job opportunities.
This is like a never-ending cycle, you will then
continue to be in the same social class as your
parents, and your children will continue to stay in the
same cycle as their parents.

In what ways
Modern Racism, White, Blacks,
Relationships
21-st century segregation exists overtly in
our school systems, communities, and
prisons. According to a survey last year.
43% of Latinos and 38% of blacks got to
schools where less than 10% of their peers
are white. But how does segregation affect
us personally? What about the restaurants
we patronize, the social venues we go to,
and the places we worship? The social and
cultural segregation isnt restricted to
uneducated people living in the country.
What about how the TV shows that have
casts that look like my family are
segregated. What about all the times, I
attend country venues and im the only
African American there? Or I can count the
number on ONE hand, in a crowded placed
of over 200 people? Its understandable that
we dont hear much about this type of
divide. Its too personal for many, who often
dont want to be seen as racists. What about
interracial friendships, interracial
marriages? Sadly, these things still tend to
be frown upon on and it is 2016.

Further Questions

Reflection:
During my research I was able to familiarize myself, as well as deepen my knowledge
about this movement called Black Lives Matter. Going into this I had no idea what this
movement was, I guess you could say I was somewhat biased about this topic. I reassumed that
this movement was bashing Whites, because thats all I had seen on social media, like Facebook.

Bryan 7
However, doing research it not simply brings awareness to Black Lives. The purpose is to raise
awareness to how Black Lives are somewhat seen as unimportant. The movement is trying to
broaden the conversation around the state violence to include all the ways that sometimes-Black
people are left powerless. Black people are stripped of their privileges and more often than no it
has always gone unsaid. Well because of three incredible women, they want to put a stop to that.
They are not saying that White Lives do not matter, however they are brining awareness that
Black Lives are not as valued as much as White Lives. Need proof? Research it.
As an African American I first hand am able to see how black people are often
overlooked, looked down upon, targeted and abused (mentally, or physically). Being black in
todays society is tough, because you must find your own identity. Sometimes, you may let what
you see on TV, Papers, Social media define you but that is not you. You are not harmful because
of the color of your skin, you are not out looking for trouble because of the color of the skin.
However, this is how the media tries to define African Americans. While doing my research I ran
across a data census that stated, Black people are given 20% longer sentences than white people
for the same crimes. You can commit the exact same crime but because of the color of your skin
you will be given a 20% longer sentence than a white individual. Black Lives Matter is a rallying
cry to make a difference and take down unjust status quo that holds racial equality at bay in
America.
