Writers Intention

A foreseeable career path that I see for myself would be travel

writing for some type of magazine or blog. A specific career goal would
be to write for National Geographic. Ive always been fascinated with
their magazine and the places that they show. Personally, I feel as if
my writing style meshes well with the career path of a travel writer. Im
really sensitive to everything that goes on around me including life in
general. Traveling as well as writing has always been intriguing to me.
By putting the two together I would be simultaneously living both
dreams. I feel like this career path would benefit my writing. Everyday
life brings me new inspirations, to draw from and write about. Moving
from place to place would emphasize that and ultimately lead to more
creative pieces.
Seeing grants me inspiration, different places, cultures, art,
language, women, architecture etc. would grant me incredible amounts
of various inspiration as well as perspectives to be analyzed. Being in
these different places id use the art of observation to gather
information about that particular place and from their manifest writing,
which coincides with that place. Setting has the power to allow me to
see the simple beauty that the setting holds. I could share those

beauties with someone who doesnt have the privilege to explore those
regions of the world.
I would be able to share self-reflections brought forth by the
change in scenery, which in turn could issue a sense of curiosity to
those reading. I could capture the moments of being somewhere unlike
Ive never been before and describe through writing how it makes me
feel, think, and perceive. My father is a pilot and ever since I can
remember Ive been going on trips to warm islands or frigid mountain
ranges. These experiences have helped shape the person I am and
ultimately broadened my horizon. Traveling to me, equates to a change
in thinking. This would lead to a profound presence of intellect and
wisdom in my writing as well as the sharing of the experiences of
simply being somewhere Ive never been.
I plan on graduating from SUNY Cortland in a few semesters with
a degree in Professional Writing. Within those three semesters I feel as
if I need to establish what kind of writer I am. I already have a hunch
with what career I would like to pursue, however I need to learn more
tricks of the trade in regards to writing. Also I would need to establish
myself amongst others pursuing this career. I could do this by seeing
what Cortland has to offer in terms of studying abroad. This would aid
in developing myself as not only a travel writer but writer in general.
