AGCJ 313 What is writing?

Writing is a written work of art that can be used to convey messages in many
different ways. Writing is a visual form of communication. It is a form of art through
poetry, paintings, books, and much more. Writing can be formal and informal. Formally
we can use writing to write research papers and memos at work. Informally we can use it
to make a grocery list and leave our roommate sweet notes
There are tons of different types of writing such as historical, research, biography,
poetry, mystery, horror, fantasy, science fiction, autobiography etc. But there are two
categories that separate writing best for me. Fiction and Non-fiction are two categories
that can separate most writing because you are either writing fact or fabrication. For
example research papers fall in to the fact category while a childrens book about a big
red dog that stands taller than your house is fabrication.
Writing can be subjective and objective. Writing for a newspaper should be
mainly objective unless you write for a personal column. Objective writing is unbiased,
usually factual, and unprejudiced. Writing a fiction book can be subjective. Subjective
writing is meant to entertain a reader or convey ones opinions, thoughts, or beliefs. It can
be personal, biased, or prejudice. For example the book titled The Diary of Anne Frank.
Writing can be used for many different reasons. It can be used to attack an
individual, group, or population of people, animals, or objects. It can be used to uplift a

congregation in a church. It can be used to create a response to a question such as: What
is writing?
Writing can be done with so many different utensils, fonts, and languages. You
can write on a computer for a website to sell products or show off your new dog on
Facebook.
Writing can be a duty, a passion, an everyday act of life, or an assignment in class.
It is an important part of our lives and education. Either write something worth reading
or do something worth writing, said Ben Franklin. This quote explains what writing is to
me. It shows that you can write because it is worth something to an audience. Also, you
can write about something you have done in your life and write for yourself. Either way
writing should be a part of your life.
We all have a story to tell and a reason to write. Writing can make history real to
us. We use writing to record data, take notes, meetings, and establish values and beliefs
for a nation such as the United States of America. The declaration of independence is a
perfect example of what writing is and represents. It is document that explains all that our
country was formed on. It allows an entire nation to come together through this one
document. Writing is a good practice for everyone and a part of our everyday life.
