Lesson Plan for Kindergarten Week of 5/2/16

Objective: To have students be able to use instruments to accompany their singing.

Materials Needed: xylophones, glockenspiels, woodblocks, hand drum, egg shakers
Procedure:
1. Bumble Bee rhyme
a. Review rhyme with slide on board.
b. Movement: have kids walk around the room, teacher will play drum, have
students walk to beat of drum, jump when the hear the louder pitch drum
sound.
c. Add instruments: steady beat, shakers, you are out woodblocks, pass
around in circle.
2. Cuckoo Song
a. Review song and game
b. Have students play game a couple times through to practice singing the
song
c. Instrument parts: Glockenspiels: any 2 notes on cuckoo, cuckoo 2x
d. Introduce instrument parts with body percussion first, keep steady beat on
lap while sing, clap on word cuckoo, (talk about how it has 2 sounds so it
gets 2 claps)
- Split class into 2 groups, group 1 plays game, group 2 accompanies on
glockenspiels

Second Grade: Caps For Sale 5/2/16

Objective: To have students be able to music to act out a story and be able to
identify the different parts.
Materials Needed: mallet instruments, unpitched instruments, Caps for Sale book
1. Review Whos That
Procedure: Caps for Sale
1. Teach Caps for Sale song
a. using solfege Sol-Mi, Sol-Mi, Sol-La, Sol- Mi, Sol, Fa, Mi, Re, Do
b. Teach words
c. Have students pat on the word caps, notice pattern for when it happens
2. Introduce Story
What is a peddler? (someone who traveled to sell their goods. In our
story the peddler is selling hats!)
What do monkeys say? (in our story they are going to say tsk, tsk, tsk)
Talk about parts in book (caps song, monkeys)
3. Read book
4. Introduce xylophone parts (have xylophones in semi-circle on rug with bass in
front for the teacher)
Pat on word lap
Low C and F play on word cap
5. Practice xylophone part with partner couple times through
