The Professional Progress Report is an assessment tool integral to the admission of students
interested in entering the Buena Vista University Teacher Education Program. You are being
asked to reflect on the students attitude and performance. Students applying to the Teacher
Education Program will need to secure the signatures of two faculty/staff members who feel
would best be able to support their application for admission to the Teacher Education Program.
One of the nominations must come from a Professional Education Faculty member teaching an
Education course. Transfer students may name instructors from prior institutions if they have
been at Buena Vista University for less than one academic semester/term.
Using the scale below to indicate the level of performance you have observed, place
an X in the box below your assessment choice.
Please evaluate and check the appropriate box. Your
comments are appreciated.

4) Did the student exhibit the ability to plan and
organize?
Katerina was a student in SEDU 365, Reading in the Content Area. The focus of the course is to
generate a Books and Alternative Resources list to use when writing lessons plans using
reading strategies from Fisher, Frey and Iveys text, Instructional Strategies to Develop
Content Literacy and Daniels and Zemelmans text, Subjects Matter: Exceeding
Standards through Powerful Content-Area Reading. Katerina successfully completed each
UBD lesson plan and incorporated each reading strategy with an alternative text for her
content area of literature. Using TIME magazines original book review for Anne Franks
Diary found at http://time.com/3912767/anne-frank-diary-review/, Katerina wrote a
lesson plan that included making connections, determining importance, questioning,
visualizing, making inferences, summarizing and monitoring for comprehension that allowed
the students to see the big picture of the diary. She included understandings, goals and
essential questions for the lesson. The strong point of the lesson was the instructional
steps that were written specifically for the teacher and students.
It is without reservation that I recommend Katerina for admittance to the teacher education
program. She is an exemplary student who will represent Buena Vista University well. She will
work well with colleagues, administrators, students and parents in any school setting in which she
works. She possesses teacher dispositions as addressed in EDCO 290 and exhibits positive
characteristics expected of pre-service teachers. It is a pleasure to recommend Katerina for
admittance into the education program.
