Students will apply word problems with addition and subtraction, while using Legos. (Objective)
III. CURRICULUM CONNECTION:
Prior to this lesson, students will practice place value and review digits of numbers.
IV. INSTRUCTION
A. ENGAGEMENT: Exploring with Legos
B. INSTRUCTIONAL SEQUENCE (Teaching Methodology with Student Activities):
C. Identifying the Legos
a. In pairs, students will identify and discuss each of Lego.
b. Tell us how many 1s can fit on the 2 block, 2s can fit on the 4 block Lego, and how many
4s can fit on the 8 block Lego.

Lego.

Application Activity
a. I will ask the class how many 1s,2s,4s and 8s can fit inside an area. How many 1s can fit
on top of the 4 block LegoIf I took 1 away how many 1s would be left?
b. Students will be given word problems and they will apply their Legos to the question to
form a solution.
Monitoring Student Learning
a. Students will get into groups to collaborate ideas to find answers to the word problems.
