Newt Gingrich

Lets begin by giving some of Newt Gingrichs personal details. Newton Leroy
McPherson was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was raised by his mother,
Kathleen Daugherty and his adopted father, Robert Gingrich. He and his three sisters
were raised in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania on a military base until he was in high school
when they moved to Georgia at Fort Benning. Newt attended Emory University, where
he received his Bachelors degree as well as Tulane University, where he received a
Masters degree and a Ph.D in European history. He was a college professor for awhile in
Georgia and then was elected to congress in 1978. He is well known as the 50th speaker
of the house when Bill Clinton was the President. He also ran for President of the United
States as a republican in 2012, though he did not get the nomination. He is 70 years old
and has been married 3 times. He has two children. (Gingrich, Wiki)
Newt loves to write and has written quite a few books. He has authored or co
authored 27 books. For someone that has been busy his whole life doing different things
with politics, writing that many books is quite the spectacle. Many of his books have
been non-fiction books, 18 to be exact, however, he has written a few fiction books as
well. One of the books Newt Co-authored on is called Contract with the Earth. It talks

about how we need to repair our planet and how the government needs to help with that.
The environment is a huge part of society and an important part of Democracy and the
economy. Another book Gingrich authored was Rediscovering God in America. He
talks about the importance of God in our country. Our country is founded on basic
principles of God and run in the same manner. (Gingrich, Rediscover) In the
introduction it says this There is no attack on American culture more destructive and
more historically dishonest than the secular Lefts relentless effort to drive God out of
Americas public square, (Gingrich, Rediscover). This is the first sentence in the
introduction and I think it really says a lot about who Newt Gingrich is and what he
stands for. Religion is an important part of his life. He has always been religious
because of the way he was raised. He grew up going to the Lutheran church and stuck
with that until he was in graduate school. Once he got there, he decided to become
Southern Baptist. Eventually, he found his way to Catholicism when he met Pope
Benedict XVI in the United States and said that he just felt so peaceful and the spirit of
the Father around him (Gingrich, Wiki).
Newt has been a very successful politician. He served as Georgias sixth
congressional district from 1979 until 1999. He was the speaker of the house from 1995
to 1999 and was the fiftieth speaker of the house. Thirteen years after he resigned from
the house he ran for President of the United States as a republican. He did not make it to
the primaries, as he knew he was beaten by Mitt Romney so he dropped out and endorsed
Romney as the top candidate. Newt said that it is sad that a number of Republicans do
not understand that this country is sick of earmarks. Americans are sick of politicians
taking care of themselves. They are sick of their money being spent in a way that is

indefensible, (Van Susteren). In most cases Presidential candidates have passion for
what they do and especially this country. In Newts case, there is definitely a sense of
urgency and care for everything he wanted to go about. Obviously, the people of this
country didnt feel the same because he didnt have the support he needed to become the
next President.
Not only was Gingrich a political figure, he also was a businessman. He and his
wife owned a couple of businesses that were worth almost $100 million. They both had a
net worth of at least $6.7 million in 2010 (Gingrich, Wiki).
Recently, Newt Gingrich has emerged as a top contender to become Donald
Trumps running mate in the Presidential election. Gingrich has become involved and
more importantly has endorsed Donald Trump as the best candidate in the 2016
Presidential election. Gingrich said, I have no idea what his thinking is right now. I
dont have any interest in the sense that Im going to go out and try to become his vice
president, Gingrich told Channel 2 Action News. I would obviously have to listen
carefully if he called. Hes an old friend, and I think any time a potential president calls a
citizen, a citizen owes them an obligation (Bluestein). Gingrich also has commented
that both President Bushs and Mitt Romney not willing to endorse Trump was offensive.
I dont know Newt Gingrich but through all the research, he seems like a wellrounded guy. Hes a very successful politician and a very religious man, with good
values. Should he become the next Vice President, I think well be in good hands.
